Irish day, gone
Owners in the mounting yard, gone
Replaced by some Mexican beer garden where not one customer has ever been seen and a discotheque in
the bookmakers ring.
What will they think of next?
My mail is that Ben is Ernie manning.

I don't think Ben is Ernie Manning, but I did laugh when you suggested it.
Breakfast on the coast with my ex-wife was thoroughly enjoyable.
A day at the races was something I hadn't done for a while and then a few hours with Pop at Crown capped off a wonderful day. Unfortunately when we returned to Mt Pleasant, Gimp, his beloved boxer, had taken advantage of the lamb chops that were left on the bench. So we ate at the Thai Corner. Wow, that brought back some memories.
I cannot say that what I saw at Ascot today is a gilt edged realisation of the future however I, along with others are starting to believe in the Action Man.
Grant Burns, the Great White Hope, was seen walking the 1st floor today with a senior member (The Respected One) of the Perth Racing committee. Is this a portent of the changing face of Perth Racing.
This picture shows Burns in a Napolean like stance. Great finger pointing skills. That is a talent definitely needed at Perth Racing. Where did the money go? It was him. Who left the hose on? It was him. Who leaked that information to the press? It was him.
Nothing was a problem for him today. He spoke to everyone but avoided kissing the head of the one baby that was there. He stayed beyond reach in that situation. I believe the Action Man and his lovely girl Lexie have recently entered parenthood. It was akin to an upcoming election watching Burns work the floor.
Many of the committee were absent today. Some were holidaying, some were imparting wisdom, some were touching cloth.
This is a dynamic picture. The Respected One is always reliable with his race day duties.
I spoke to the Action Man after his little drinking session with Trevor Andrews and David Harrison on the Owners Ledge. The boys were drinking Rogers. Does that mean they were Rogering. Perish the thought.
Burns was philosophical about the prime role. Andrews and Harrison would love Burns in that very role. Many would. Some would seize the opportunity and see Burns as the conduit to bring Perth Racing and Magic Millions closer together. David Houston wants to drink in the committee room again.
On another subject matter. Food at the races. Colin Pearce wants dims sims on the 1st floor. I haven't seen Colin since Professional Lady was giving him a polish. She was a an absolute gem.
There were others there today like, Sharon Miller and Anne King who would also eat dim sims.
The F & B man Tony was in a serious mood today. He didn't take kindly to a tug of the coat suggesting dim sims. He asked if I was Ben. All I could say is that I have watched his films. I don't have an English accent.
I think you will find the Action Man could have competition. Stay tuned.

He confirmed it is true. He spoke or had a beer with everyone on course yesterday.
All 11 of them.
Past that, and his nervous laughter at this suggestion, he did decline the opportunity to be drawn on the question of him taking up the reins at headquarters. He is currently considering his position, and is hoping his numbers man will be getting back to him shortly, to see if he has a real chance of snaring the top job.

This is a superb picture of The Honourable Colin Barnett, Premier of W.A.
Did he state this at a luncheon for archeologists over the Easter weekend.
"The West Australian will re-iterate my thoughts about Belmont Park early next week.
I don't believe two inner racetracks can be maintained and I told Perth Racing this when we met recently.
A deputation came to see me requesting an arm and a leg to rebuild Belmont Park.
My racing knowledge may be limited however I know It is pointless to rebuild. Perth Racing have sold too much of the surrounding land to make Belmont Park a truly viable entertainment addition to the precinct we envisage. It would only ever be a Happy Valley when we should be aiming at Flemington. People would be surprised how much of Belmont Park has actually been sold. Everything else, like the existing grandstand, horse stalls, wash bays etc. have all decayed. I know the Track Manager would love to rebuild the track and he is also very keen to establish a bok choy nursery. This all comes at a cost.
They would need a lot more than $70m. The racing industry as a whole wouldn't vote for me again if I gave everything to Perth Racing.
I suggested to the deputation they speak candidly with the father of the Action Man (pictured below) as he will provide strong advice on a couple fronts.
When they left I said to Daisy (the tea lady) why do I feel I have had a gun at my head. I don't feel like a leader of substance if I give Perth Racing everything and the rest of the industry nothing".
There was a short break in the delivery as Barnett sipped some orange juice from a Vegemite glass jar. He then continued.
To be continued.
This is the Action Mans father who never appeared in the previous post. Don't mess with him.
Back to the Premier.
"I am led to believe there is a special meeting early in the week involving all the racing heavyweights. This is good I commend them on their insightful behaviour however it is disturbing to hear that rumours are circulating that Perth Racing won't attend. This is nonsensical. I met with them recently, I know what they want, they will be there.
I have it on good authority that Neil Pinner and Julian Sullivan were thoroughly checked when arriving back into Perth. Both men had special suits of steel made in China whilst they were away. They knew that this special meeting was going to be vociferous to say the very least. They will be there in attendance. Both men are not afraid when looking into the eyes of demigods. Pinner wouldn't throw anyone under the bus and Sullivan has VRC in his blood.
I am contemplating arranging with my good friend Kerry to have the meeting televised live, possibly 7mate. That will lift Tuesday afternoon ratings, especially if I can lure Dennis Commetti into the hosting role. I wouldn't mind Bruce McAvainey as well. What a team.
Scoops Manning can report for the West. It will be a double for Kerry.
Before I commend everyone for what they are digging up can I just say this, don't mess with my good friend Bob. I will call him "Big Bob" to avoid wrongful identification. He is an iconic figure in racing. He puts so much time and effort into the racing industry. I have been referred to as theLittle Emperor at times. If any bad will confronts Big Bob I will entertain Action Man and Squinty (pictured below) to disembowel those responsible. May you continue unearthing many treasures".
I am not sure if that is a true reflection on a meeting of archeologists with the Premier. I could have been fed an off dim sim.

Vice-chairman Chris Chalwell
yesterday cited the need to concentrate on his growing transport
business interests in the Eastern States as the primary reason behind
his shock resignation from the Perth Racing board.
Chalwell’s
decision comes 14 months after vice-chairman Eddie Rigg resigned due to
business interests, having held the position for just four months.
Chalwell
was voted in as vice-chairman by the new PR board last October, the day
after being re-elected for another two years at the club’s annual
general meeting.
His resignation continues a
turbulent time for PR and its chairman Neil Pinner, who was voted into
the top job in October after serving on the committee for one year.
Pinner could not be contacted yesterday.
The
club is fighting to retain Belmont Park as a winter racetrack despite
suggestions by Premier Colin Barnett and Racing and Wagering WA that the
historic course should be sold and the funds used to upgrade the
State’s premier venue, Ascot.
Barnett rejected a
plea from PR for the Government to contribute towards a $74 million
redevelopment of Belmont Park from proceeds of the proposed sale of the
TAB.
PR has struggled to establish stability in the chief executive position.
Simon
Love decided to take the chief executive role at the Victoria Racing
Club and Rob Bransby opted to stay as managing director of HBF after
both had been appointed by PR.
Chalwell said it was with regret that he had decided to stand down.
“I enjoyed it as vice-chairman as my passion is horse racing,” Chalwell said.
“But
I was spending too much time, up to 30 to 40 hours a week, doing PR
business and not looking at my own business interest which is growing.
“I am the executive chairman and share the business with two other men.
“The business has grown three to fourfold.
“With the WA economy very flat and mining in retraction, we have looked to all of the opportunities on the east coast.
“I
feel I have let the other board members down by leaving, but I needed
to break the nexus and move on to concentrate on my business and
family.”
PR is the biggest stakeholder in the WA
racing industry and is the biggest driver of wagering turnover in WA
through its meetings at Ascot and Belmont Park.
Chalwell,
58, has worked intently for PR in negotiations with the State
Government over the privatisation of the TAB and the proposed
redevelopment of Belmont Park..

At least if it collapses, it will be a surprise to no-one as the writing has been on the wall for along time IMO
He resigned. He is gone, That is the story if you can't or don't want to write the actual story. Everything else is just ****.
CEO aspirant Simon Love couldn’t come as he got a better job. CEO aspirant Rob Bransby wouldn’t come as he had a better job. Bransby is a sharp, observant and highly talented individual who displayed great wisdom in allowing his studies in tasseography to dictate his decision.
Alas, but like a favourite leather jacket, the good people of the racing industry did join forces to defeat the resident evil of Bodom. They were spotted at the trials on Monday with what appeared to be a petition or a letter. One could see the brothers-at-arms ready to gut and throw the killers back into the lake. They must have plotted well as the big guns did come out to play.
