Eight odds on favourites out of the ten races then Real Lucky at $2.10 and Robert The Bruce at $2.80, favourite bettors would want to be well in front coming to the last race to be backing Bruce at $2.80 if he can't work his way to an early lead from the five gate it could be curtains. If does lead though he should be ok.

    All up tote places.
    Race 1 - Shockwave ( pay 1,2 only )
    Race 4 - Campora
    Race 7 - Jailbreak

Race 2 - looks a race between the fave and Tisadream, with Bronze Seeker ( 10) getting the soft run on the faves back . But if looking for a bit of place value and possibly a chance to get the one out one back run then around $2.70 a place the three horse - Dominate The Dojo - he was a huge run last start when second to Tisadream.

Race 1 - fixed is pay 1,2 only but tote with the late scratching should still be 1,2,3. Reflected in comparison odds.

From memory I think the track is far less leader/pegs dominant when the weather is like this, expecting good racing.

R1 expecting the fav to win but the lightning strike sat just in behind them can give it a shake.
R2 I though Suspicious Life would cross and win.
R3 Johnny Fox swooping when the leaders collapse.
R4 Simba Bromac roving Dame Puissant FF
R5 Bettors Fire crosses andwins agan.
    R6 Jack Mac if healthy.
R7 Bettor Be Lively leave me out at the odds but its his race.
R8 Call me nuts but i'm really expecting Shes Turbo Charged to be charging over them late, well worth an EW play.
R9 Some good trotters but we need more numbers
R10 Machrie will be surging through the gaps late.

    Good luck all.

Once they settled with Tisadream punching daylight, the fave pocketed and the Dojo one out one back he became a 6/4 chance paying over $10. They bet $12 earlier today about a genuine 7/2 hope. Last start placing - fair dinkum massive run.

Missed the first race..just watched replay, the old coming off the pegs and letting the horse behind you cut you out of third trick.
But in fairness Shockwave weak as water over the concluding stages. Should have held third comfortably.

Shockwave has the distinction of being the first horse in a field of seven to miss a place sitting on the odds on favourites back at Gloucester Park since 1932.

Frostyflyer showed how to do it correctly. Not rocket science!

Lauren Jones - Campora - you can do it. Stay behind Simba at all costs.

    Lauren - ^:)^
And the best thing was you didn't follow Simba at all costs!

Why a driver of Lewis's experience wants to be looking at that infield semaphore board - just a mystery. One of the best drivers ever but that was beyond poor. Full credit to Ryan Warwick too - outstanding.

    Good horse El Jacko.
  • Ridersonthestorm33Ridersonthestorm33    10,951 posts
Lewis was I-) that helped too. He was glancing at the infield clock or something. Far far too casual. Ryan Warwick summed it up in a split second.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Ryan Warwick knockers to acknowledge an outstanding drive.

Ritchie was right - Lewis caught absolute asleep - thought he was at a Sunday picnic

Full marks to Ryan Warwick - but why  wont more WA drivers do that - all too clicky and matey

Watched C Alford drive one earlier tonight at Launceston - one of Emma Stewarts - equal favourite - full bore at the bell - from way back in the field - took em on at the bell - drove the ears off it - crossed over and then won

WA drivers at present - talk about conservative - theve got NZ horses and drive them like Kiwis

Lauren Jones must have been thinking wtf, excuse the French...but all solved when Lewis peeled to the breeze and sitting on El Jacko was as good as sitting on Simba Bromac.
Just after the bell thought Campora was sending out distress signals after a soft run, but down the back straight picked up and up the home straight tipped the fave comfortably out of second.

Five races down and three odds on favourites roll 'em, roll 'em, roll 'em rawhide! Yes all rolled.

Back To The Beach ($1.60 fixed ) & Simba Bromac ($1.10 tote ) both barrier one. How much would corporate bookmakers have made from barrier one odds on favourites at GP in the last five years. Squillions!

A lot to put on and not much to payout - and they get beaten often enough!

Corey Peterson behind Jailbreak...do what Woodley, Jones and Mitchell Miller have done...pegs and don't leave 'em. The place is yours to take home.

War Club got out to $2.60 a drum sitting on Jack Mac. Mr. Spot from the 11 heavily backed a place on tote into $2. Renshaw three back $2.90.

Probably due to War Club's trainer being quoted that War Club would hold the lead in today's West.

He was right though, Woodley wanted to hold the lead.. for about half a metre.

And from what have seen of Woodleys driving over the years he would hand up in a situation like that 99.5 times out of a 100 drives. Overall he uses his commonsense and that's all it is..plain old commonsense.
Imagine if he went hell for leather with Jack Mac early. Goodness gracious.

So that's also why all the place money for Mr. Spot, a clear second favourite a place, thinking a big chance to get the one out one back on the back of Jack Mac.
Moral of the story: Don't believe everything you read.

Or just as bad War Club holds Jack Mac out then he niggles and niggles away at you the whole race..another way to be a spent duck.
Woodley did the right thing - gave War Club every possible chance and the rest looked after itself.

Didn't take long another $1.75 barrier one odds on favourite bites the bust. Did the dipsy doodle early and Irene good night.

Robert The Bruce - it's your grand final - no excuses - no ifs or buts. As Rod Stewart said...Tonight's The Night!

Flip Flop 33/1 will go well on a sloppy track. Only a little guy, when the rest are stopping he will be going the same pace - slowly, but if the race is run upside down and finds a spot in the field, he's the big boil over!

Yeah have missed a few, realise he hasn't gone on with it as much as I thought he would when he first started driving, but haven't seen him make too many errors. Tonight was a sensible drive, but yep take your point. He does have a few critics, they all do!

Nobody a bigger Lewis fan than me but that was shocking tonight on Simba Bromac. They look at the infield time board and just like phone texting when driving a car - it's an accident waiting to happen. Don't mean a literal accident but Warwick seized the iniative. It's a split second thing - but that's all you need for a mistake ( Lewis ) and brilliance ( Warwick ).

That Flip Flop has motored along the pegs to nearly third at the corner then ran into a brick wall. Would have been placed with the run coming to fruition, but he's just a battler. A weak midweek or country race will suit him. Although tonight was weakish. Except for the winner!

On the other hand because Lewis has been such a great driver in the Alford, Lang realm does he deserve a little slack. I'm not so sure.

That was poor, a complete lapse in concentration - he was asleep at the wheel no doubt about it. The glance at the inner time clock, he's done that a 1000 times, they all do it, you can do that and still be in full control but there was a lapse somewhere.

Does it deserve a suspension ? For me yes. That horse was $1.10 on tote.

It did liven up proceedings though, was going to be a procession and turned into a race.

Just depends what side of the fence you're on...no getting away from the fact Lewis made a blue. Or was it also Ryan Warwick and a smart horse himself in El Jacko that deserve the praise ?

Track held up very well...one horse who definetly appreciated a bit of give and softness - Robert The Bruce. Look for him whenever the sting is out of the track. His legs said - 'thank you'.

Drive of the night - hardly saw him - but Garry Hall Jnr. he Dominated The Dojo. Read the race to a tee.
