I rarely bet at this frustrating track but one today caught my eye after watching a few replays.

R6 #8 Explosion 1u/2u

A 24 start maiden until he won two starts ago but it was a good win. He was held up twice in the run losing momentum but still let down to win by almost 2L. Then last start ran 3rd in a blanket finish only going down a nostril after sitting 3 wide the trip.

He only carries 53kg today and looks to be landing midfield with cover. With clear running in the straight he's a chance to strike up his second win but 4+ the place is also very appealing.

Palma Merenti's trainer BD Curtis trained his first winner in 1964 with a horse that I think was called Stadella. He also trained and drove a number of trotting winners on the Golden Mile. Had a very good galloper...possibly horse of the year in Kalgoorlie one or two years in the 70's - Flying Guard.
Obviously still going ok judged on that win. Great leveler this game ...if you have the best horse in the race you don't have to engage in a footrace with people 50 years your junior to decide the winner.

talking through your ar$e as usual, just wild inane statements without any evidence. So Kal and Ger are both corrupt racing centres but yet scrutinised by the same stewards that control every meeting in WA

    pathetic, childish, vacuous shite

one day you might be asked to prove it, now that would be fun.

$100/1 pops get up every 2nd day now. Happening way more than it used to. Doesn’t mean anything dodgy is happening. Good on the old trainer for getting the horse up, paid $118 top tote. Hope he had a few bob ew.

I think the trainer’s first name is Brian. Not sure iif he’s related to Barry Curtis who won the Hannans with Stolen Thunder in 1984 and 1986?

Brian Dale (Gogs) Curtis is known by almost every member of the thoroughbred fraternity in Kalgoorlie and by every member of the now defunct GMTC.
Training 100/1 winners well into his seventies....you would think that someone in the media would be able to produce a decent story of his lifetime in both codes.
Julio....give Bob a miss for a week and give us The Life Of Brian.

Cant agree more Curmudgeon. Leave Bob alone for 1 days print and tell us some other racing people's story, and this one would be a great starting point

Excellent  Idea ----Gogs would be able to shed some light on some top class horses such as santa brae, special test,---Remmeber asking Brain was he any relation to barry Curtis the trainer of stolen thunder his answer was no but I received one of his bills once.

Has been mentioned before truck pulled outta Kalgoorlie with four horses heading east----on board was santa brae who won at Flemington, Special Test won the geelong cup---- finished 27th in order for melb.cup.----------- this part is hearsay three horses he beat home at geelong finished up in top seven places in the cup. The two others on the truck were trotters one landed a 40k.plunge at Kilmore trots horse called two wells, the other trotter  didn't do any good.

Special Test won a kalg.cup Hannans Hcp, Santa Brae won two hannans hcp. Things you remember  Special Test possessed  a set of donkey ears-- stable name was donkey.

Was told two wells was hit by a truck at ascot getting off  a truck.. The horse mentioned  stolen thunder trained by barry Curtis that won two hannans finished up one of the best show jumpers in the world early nineties can't  remember the exact figure he was sold for six figures.at one part.

Special Test and Santa Brae were both trained by Ian Goddard, a very ender rated trainer. Two Wells was trained by the late George James and all 3 were owned by Wally Hannah. They were very special times in racing.

Was Sky Filou and a couple of other good horses trained by ex jockey Bob Taylor owned by Wally Hannah?. took them to Queensland for the Doomben 10000 and the Stradbroke. I am sure Sky Filou dont know if i have spelled it right and another horse same combination (trainer owner) went up there to contest those races

The poor underprivileged schools in the PSA Footy competition command the attention of two reporters and a live internet feed of their games and yet the The West makes do with poor old Ernie double dipping across both Thoroughbred and Harness Racing. The chances of anyone doing the "Life Of Brian" are very remote. That is no knock on Ernie, just an illustration of the pathetic chip wrapper that Stokes and DeCeglie have turned our once erstwhile daily into.

Good old George the Baker, very adept at emptying bookies satchels, especially with Two Wells, a famous plunge.

The other top class horse that wally owned that landed a big plunge in Queensland was a top horse Barrosa Boy-- was the main one your thinking of Spinking.?

    Palma Merenti

When questioned, trainer attributed the apparent improved performance to freshening the gelding up since its last start performance at Kalgoorlie on 7 June 2020.

Nothing like tipping them out and letting them rediscover themselves :))

Haha I came here to post this. Nothing like a 6 day freshen up.

Why don't they just say I have NFI why it won? Why does there need to be a reason for the stewards? Not saying anything untoward has happened at all, BUT if there was something surely the testing covers that base? It wasn't 100s into 5s :-??

Settling last 7 days ago vs settling outside the leader probably had a lot to do with it.
I backed it. Why? Only because the price was stupid not because I thought it'd win. 4 starts earlier it beat Regal Counsel by 0.2L in a $40,000 64+ at Kal. 14 days after that Regal Counsel was beaten 0.2L by Platoon!
How can a horse with that form then be >100-1 in a $14,400 58+ at Kal??? Even 2 starts back finished 2.1L behind Concrete Madame and met it 2kg better this time. How can one be odds-on and the other 100-1???
