Pretty clear now the horse needs to be driven for luck if it can’t lead against the good ones.
It is a very good horse but there’s plenty of them over east not taking advantage of 800 mtr tracks.

You dont know how the horse travelled to Qld - so it might be better at its next run their

But on face value it was most dissappointing - given a 10 out of 10 drive by De Campo - but they wernt A Graders it raced against it - i mean even Loyalist beat it home

But MS looked in big trouble 500 metres from home - so to me it appeared to race very flat with no zip - so you have to see how it runs at its next start

Can't beat anything trained by Grimson. Swayzee has grown three legs since Butt ceased training it, Loyalist the same. Greatest trainer in Australia is Grimson.

Yeah, dominant, got a good cart up on the 3 wide train, terrific drive but just miles too good. Great visual coverage from the overhead, but that commentator is out for lunch, sound down.

Be interesting to see how he goes against his brother, Swayzee. Dixon versus Grimson.

I agree with you - i follow Qld Trots and bet on it - and i thhink he is excellent - Chris Barsby - and unlike a couple of WA Trots callers - whose calls are totally ruined because they are punters . Well Chris - he might be an Ernie Manning type and not bet - or if he does bet - you cant tell - and that is a great attribute in his calls

That Albion Park track - a magnificent Trotting Track - easily the best Metro track in Aust - and if i was appointed CEO of WA Trots the very 1st thing id do - is contract an Engineering consulting firm for precise measurements of the AP track - including the cambering - the lot - then id say right - can i fit at that GP or Pinjarra or where ever - so we have an identical AP track to showcase WA harness racing at its brilliant best- and the sport would go through the roof

Grant Dixon - well done to him - he is a unique trainer - very good of course - but hes allways had top line horses - Colt Thirty 31 is another one recently and plenty of others - but he allways seems to have about 8-10 Kellerberrin class horses in the stable at the one time as well - low class horses - that he pushes around Redcliffe etc - thats not a slight on him -but he just has real good ones and real battlers at the same time

Bell - ive sung his praises - got an excellent voice - but he does punt - you can tell it in the call - plus he should not be saying - at the bell - oh this driver has got a big decision to make - he shouldnt be saying that - if he happens to stay in - yes he can then say - look he stayed in - thats actually calling the race

The other knock - is - and this is for the older forum members - Bell in my opinion has got a touch of the Brian Markovics ( use to call M/Valley trots ) Markovic use to now and again get a little bit too cocckie - and hed say - oh look this thing has raced away - then 30 metres from home panic - panic - oh it is folding up - its got beat - if your listening to them on the radio - and if your on them - that can leave a real sour taste in your mouth

With H King - hes got the habit of telling you - the audience - with multiple laps to go that they have got no hope -or a forlorn chance - this thing needed to be here in the running - not back their - im not saying what he says is incorrect - but just call the race . How good was the Sunshine Sprint?!?!?!

There aren't enough of them anyone but not many more entertaining things than a strongly contested harness race.

The SS was a great race - and clearly the best horse won

Re MS it ran a very good race - it had the race run to suit with the fave trailing a horse 3 wide going no where

However if you are going to reach the pinnacle as a driver - become the very best - like say Gary Hall jnr or Brian Gath ( in his hey day ) and who was the king of half carting on sit sprinters in the last lap

Well for mine - that was a poor drive by DeCampo - i watched that race live - and when he hooked it 3 wide - i thought why did you do that - there was no horse no where near him covering him 3 wide - for mine he went 150-200 metres too early - in these top notch races you have to drive them inch perfect to save energy especially if you are on a $13 pop

Hall jnr or Gath would have just sat and sat and sat - to the very last second - it wouldnt have won - because the winner is a champion - but it could have run 2nd or 3rd at worst

Agree what a great race and the right horse won,glad to see stewards pulled in Jack Trainor over his drive on I Cast No Shadow when pulling out in front of Leap to Fame and not progressing and then shifting wider down the back,when the stable mate to the horse he was driving was leading,(not a good look ).

Luckily Grant Dixon had the nous to go back inside that horse and the rest is history.

I say luckily for both Leap to Fame and Jack Trainor because if that horse had got beaten Trainor would have been in a lot more trouble then been fined $500.

Well done to Albion Park - the full stewards report was available Sunday - nice and prompt - excellent

And i notice Stephen Shinn ( once trainer/reinsman of the mighty Pure Steel ) is on the stewards panel - hes moved around a fair bit - he was Chairman of Stewards in Tasmania for a while - and of course he was in Perth

Just one thing i found interesting in that stewards report - were the pre race swabs - and it varied from 2/3 or 4 horses in a race

And in the SS race - 4 horses - the 1st 3 clearly in the market - only 3 under double figures - namely Leap To Fame - Mach Dan - Betterzippit

The other one chosen was Spirit of St Louis equal 5th fave at about 25-1

So they didnt pre race swab Magnificent Storm - 4th fave about 12-1

So my question is - how do they select the horses to pre race swab - is it the 1st 3 in the market - and they pull a marble out for the 4th one

To me if it is optional - then it is open to possible abuse - im not for one moment questioning their integrity - but does anyone know how they select horses for pre race swabs

Marko, Pretty sure most pre race swabs are selected randomly,but you would think and hope that if a horse or trainer suddenly starts punching above its weight, so to speak,it or they would receive a little more attention.

Most big races in WA ,all horses, in that race,are pre race swabbed.

Going back, a few years,the stewards in control on occasions would do horses by selecting numbers,say 1 and 5 and prerace numbers 1 and 5 in every race.

As for Albion Park,the other night,going by the results page, a few prerace urine samples were also taken from horses, Magnificent Storm, was one of them.

Only horses that had prerace blood samples taken, were recorded in the stewards report.

The swabs are showing very little return, pre-race is for TCO2 only I think, and whatever the smarties are using in many states is not showing up in the post race urine samples......or, as is the more likely explanation, some of the trainers are just absolute geniuses and have progressed to be the best in the world, turning 3 legged camels that they have obtained from reputable conditioners into serious contenders.

Changing topic a little bit - but i will post it here

Because i think the Qld harness racing is great - 1st class - pity they are going to lose the Albion Park complex - they are getting Gold Coast - but they once did have a Gold Coast complex

So Qld harness racing to me is in pretty good nick

However is it at the crossroads in alot of other places

And why i say that - in Vic the next i think it is - they are going to run 15 - 1200 metre races at mid week Melton meetings over 4 weeks or something - i think they are a complete waste of time

Their CEO - im not bagging him - he said we are prepared to trial anything - then he said - we have to make or keep harness racing relevant to a younger generation - ive heard other CEO say that type of stuff before - it might because over their - things are quite desperate and Trotting is becoming irrelevant

Think one of the factors around that is the amount of time harness racing takes up on Sky vs the betting turnover so they are pushing for shorter races so they can get on even more "product"
