Clarke has to show a bit of gutz & bat up the order, the best bat has to bat in the top 4.

Clarke & Waugh are the only oz captains I can think of that have not batted in the top 4

Players new to test cricket used to bat at number 6 then when they have played a while move up the order, now they all go to number 3 & fail.

Little wonder Australia has top order problem

Captaincy has turned his form right around averaging something like 80 since he has been captain :-O

I'm all for referals and all this however a couple of things this series have shown up as being issues

One is hot spot can't show fine nicks. For a referal to overturn the umpires decision it needs to clearly show the on field decission was wrong. Just because Hot Spot doesn't show anything is not proof the decision is wrong. I think the solution is an improvement in snicko so it can be accessed immediately as that is far better at showing fine edges.

The other issue is umpires checking to see if a bowlers bowled a no-ball after a dismisal. If it was so close the umpire couldn't call it live then there's no way it's made any difference to the end result. When you think batsman bat outside their crease by up to a metre at times what difference is a few millimetres at the bowlers end.

All these comparisons with Clarke & the greats of the game who all batted up the order.

Clarke has to go up the order,

All this crap about how you should use the technology in various sports & I watch it being used & think what the ^&*(

A few surprises in the Aust squad for 3rd test. If Siddle doesn't come up I fancy the S.Africans chances, especially if they play a keeper and De Villiers as a bat only. Kallis still a chance to play as a bat

Have to agree Funkster Aussie batting line up looks suspect Morkel should really fire here and Steyn can be better. Studio69 happy to hear your opinions any easy money in this test?

No way will the Perth test be a draw with this weather.
Would have seriously hampered the curators ability to bring up the wicket and for it to dry out sufficiently.
Will definitely be plenty of juice in it. 4 day test.

Covers on full time = sweating underneath
    Will be green

Was just at breakfast with Micky Arthur - he let slip will play 4 quicks

Do you think team bowling first will have a huge advantage?

"Proof was in that first over from Johnson. Five tremendous deliveries then his patented 'what the fudge' ball to finish the over. This man is so random I'd imagine he'd be fantastic at creating passwords."

Think it is evenly poised here if they can get a couple of quick wickets in the morning not sure what the pitch is going to do was couldnt believe SA batted first?
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
Just watching the replay now. Actually looks a good first day pitch. Australia's decision to play a spinner probably vindicates that. Yep evenly poised

Text book pull shot Du Plesis. Very good footwork overall. Will be a good test player

$7.25 for the test to finish session 1 of Day 4 looking pretty good!
Hastings & Johnson r pie throwers. Alma made them look like 4th grade bowlers the way he walked across his stumps. That is seriously taking the piss
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
Can not believe $1.25 on offer for Sth Africa. Ridiculous overs!
And $6.60 a draw is absolutely no chance. Should be 100/1
  • troopertrooper    681 posts
The $3.65 I have is looking ok. Studio69 no doubt has $61 sth afr
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
I have just one point to make
SA chased down 414 four years ago. They did so with the loss of only 4 wickets.
If they'd been chasing 600 on that occasion, would they have got it ?
  • darkshinesdarkshines    2,837 posts
    One other point to make

Top 2 chases were AGAINST Australian attack . . .

Think how well Sth Af batted (two blokes nearly doubles, one nearly single) . . . that total would still fall short of getting these runs

    No chance.
