R1. Westspeed Plate - Scott Embry
I won't put the kiss of death on Essayez in race 1 by backing it in fairness to all the PTT members involved in the Excellent Art Filly. Best of luck to Martin Allan and the myriad of members who have parted with their hard earnt to jump aboard the wagon. Snatch 'N' Grab looks the hardest to hold out after showing an excellent turn of foot in both career runs behind Rebel Queen and Chanzig. Saxophonist hit the line strongly behind Puteri Jewel and London Line, a race which produced midweek winner Light Up The Sky.

Looking to Flying Roar to get us off to a flyer and he looks extremely hard to beat. Has always shown ability and looks to have matured into an exciting type. Can roll forward from the inside gate and provided Jerry Noske can get him clear galloping room throughout he will be extremely hard to catch. King River is a regally bred gelding for Bob and Sandra Peters, a $220 000 purchase, who took advantage of the cutaway on debut to win at Pinjarra by a short neck. This is harder but he should improve. Helms Gate hit the line hard behind Madassa and will appreciate a step back up to 1200m.
1. FLYING ROAR - 3. KING RIVER - 2. HELMS GATE
SUGGESTED BET - 1. FLYING ROAR $100
They will fly along here with Madam Sass, Regal Romp, Park Lane and You Will Be Queen likely to lock horns in a battle of the speed demons and for that reason I am going to throw up two roughies in Coruscation at 30-1 and Jestpatim at around 15s. They look the weight horses to charge home over the top of a hot speed. Coruscation's last victory came on July 5 and he beat Jestpatim by 2.25 lengths and Jack 'N' Sam by 10 lengths. First up without a trial he could surprise a few at huge odds. Jestpatim is another at juicy eachway odds, second up after a chasing effort behind Marchand at Bunbury. They should both settle just behind the leaders and look value bets. Regal Romp will have to cross Madam Sass and You Will Be Queen as well as hold out Park Lane if he is to lead which is why this race looks a deal tougher than last weekend.
8. CORUSCATION - 9. JESTPATIM - 3. REGAL ROMP
Honestly, if you are punting in the Australia Day Cup you have a problem and need help, however, every race has a winner and there is always money to be made. For mine Wayside is the eachway play in this race drawn perfectly in barrier 3, it would be about the 1000th time this summer that Pike has carried the Cerise and White Sashes to victory. Picks up 1.5kg on Pants on Friar for being beaten 1.5 lengths and should be competitive as always. Run for Rum is certainly the weight horse and should secure the softest of runs for Jordan Turner from barrier 1. Pants on Friar is harder to catch than Usain Bolt but will probably represent the market mover again and has the ability to win.
6. WAYSIDE (NZ) - 4. RUN FOR RUM - 3. PANTS ON FRIAR

Picking Power Punch again as my second big swing, was the on top selection last start when he drifted back in running and charged home against a heavy leader bias. Looks one of the better bets on the card again and with normal racing luck he should be winning. Bayatorio looks the leader and main danger should he get his way out in front for Emma Stent. If he can steal some cheap sectionals then he will be very hard to catch. Power Punch - Bayatorio quinella looks an excellent investment. Moonsearch will improve second up at 1400m, he is a classy galloper who can mow turf late.
8. POWER PUNCH - 1. BAYATORIO - 5. MOONSEARCH
SUGGESTED BET - 8. POWER PUNCH $50 x $50
Happy to continue a successful relationship with Shining Knight which has certainly dragged on beyond a One Knight Stand into a long term commitment. He rarely runs a bad race and has finished inside the first 4 at 14 of his last 15 runs, an incredibly consistent campaigner. Picks up 1.5kg on Cool Trade after being unable to reel her in last start but certainly gets another crack at her here. Cool Trade will most likely be parked outside Vaughn Sigley's new star Dawn Approach who tackles this company for the first time in his short career. Thateldo is a very sharp galloper when right and every man on course will be praying he can win so they can sneak a look at Jim Taylor's finest filly, daughter Brittany.
1. SHINING KNIGHT - 3. COOL TRADE - 10. THATELDO
SUGGESTED BET - 1. SHINING KNIGHT $40 x $40
An uninspiring finish to a very uninspiring Saturday card so I'm hoping to get out in style by tipping a 20-1 pop in Futurism. There looks a distinct lack of pace in this event apart from Danzmait on the quick back up from Wednesday who will have to cross from barrier 11. Futurism should be fully fit at her fifth run back and only beaten 2.5 lengths Cougar Nights looks excellent form. Meets Singing Skies 6kg better from their last encounter, Highly Secret 4kg better, Two Tone Blonde 5kg better and Queen To An Ace 3kg better. If she can find the fence easily she should give backers a sight. Queen To An Ace second best, form is consistent without flattering. She whacked away well enough behind Full Clip to be competitive here. Pike - Durrant and wallet burning mare Highly Secret to round out the trifecta.
3. FUTURISM - 8. QUEEN TO AN ACE - 5. HIGHLY SECRET (NZ)
SUGGESTED BET - 3. FUTURISM $20

Two Tone Blonde is a massive price, I've priced it half the current available quote (the one condition being that the track plays even, which could be unlikely with the rail at the true).
The staying race looks to have zero tempo which makes Pants on Friar a very attractive price. Expecting big improvement from Generis Heart. Durrant having four runners makes it difficult to have total confidence though.
Moonsearch looks ready to fire but unsure if anything can beat Power Punch, the $3 seems reasonable.
A bit of early money Coruscation at the $31 (only some of it was mine), it was woeful first up but the map and conditions of this race appear suitable.
If you wanna back the ptt horse wait for the day because Saxophonist could end up in the red.
Both horses are accepted to race again on Saturday, yet no mention of a 1/2kg weight increase for either of them?
Or maybe I have lost the plot !!!
