Okay, I know its not everyone's idea of the best format but it is the Inters after all, a time honored race...any suggestions on how Beautide can get beat??? Barring the rest ganging up on Rattray......stranger things have happened..... I can't see it at all. Hope David runs well and maybe sneaks a place.

Beautide looks the goods. But am hoping for some pressure up front and backing 2 roughies for a place off the back row Easy On The Eye and Avonnova but need a minor miracle for one of them to sneak into the money. Will anchor them for 4th in the first 4 too with Beautide and Lenny needing to run 1,2 or 1,3 and a few others in the mix for the split.

Beautide should win this pretty easy. On another note gee Lenny has had some luck with the marbles in the Group 1's.

The card makes for an interesting day, looking forward to watching adore me v frith

The field has fallen away from what it could have been...no Christen Me or the much touted by some Philadelphia Man and Guaranteed, Terror To Love seemingly past his best, no Adore Me and some that are in it I would never have imagined qualifying some months back. I guess Lenny, a perenial drawer of the number 1 marble, has improved along with a few others but Beautide is all class. Despite continued howls of derision from some, I'll stick with For A reason as a place chance and look forward to watching the Derby, Chariots, Oaks and LadyShip on a great card of feature racing.

Fair enough JayJay. For A Reason is a good chance to get the 3 pegs trip which has proven time and again, particularly at the top level, to be the run you want at Menangle. The cover may help him settle and he can get one final shot at them. As far as pressuring or ganging up on Beautide goes, I'm not seeing many alliances among participants in the field so whoever applies the torch will go it alone and probably be finishing 200m last and needing to do some explaining in the Stewards room. Over 2 laps of a 1400m track you wouldn't be overly concerned being stuck 3 wide early or handing up and then coming back around. He has a great ability to set whatever sectionals he wants Beautide. He can burn, back off, and burn again as it suits him. Must be fun to drive.

    My thoughts on the day:

Race 1. Heat 20 of the WDC and that has become a form
guide in itself. Dexter Dunn is behind Global View who I would probably be
backing anyway. Should get to the leaders wheel and then take cover as
Shipwreck and Courage to Rule work mid race (that is if Shipwreck doesn’t run
the arm and take the lead early). Blue Pointer won’t have to spend a penny in
transit and should stick around for novelties. Small mercies, you won’t have to
listen to the post race interview with the winning driver on Sky. Greg Hayes
last week actually said to Tim Tertrick “It must be a great thrill winning a
race at Tabcorp Park Menangle”. A bloke with over 8000 race wins including just
about everything in the USA worth winning. Yep, a Menangle winner rounds out
    that CV. Cringe worthy

Race 2. I like McCardles Chance here. Thought he went
well last week and made his move a touch late in a fast time. He will get
across to the running line while Whata Avenue leads. Mister Bling and
Blackberry Lane to work around mid race. Major Moment won’t have to do much.
But he’s beaten this bunch before McCardles Chance and I think he should do it
    again.

Race 3. The Oaks. I think the market has this about
right. Delight Me holds the lead after a brief sniff from Makes Every Scents.
From there I can’t see much happening. I think Delight Me wins from Delightful
Lana. Rebel Diamond should be thrown in for novelties

Race 4. The Ladyship looks there for Adore Me to take. The
draw means it will be a great battle between Adore Me and Frith. Betting around
this, I like Majorly Foxy Styx for a place as Pas Ultimate Delight stretches
Frith for a look at the lead, Frith holds, Beauty Secret crosses to the pegs
and MFS takes the 1x1. Adore Me wins from MFS and Frith. Tact Hayleys Delight
has been in great form and can add novelty value

Race 5. Hug the Wind is all the rage and for good reason.
Drawn 1 to lead and win. I have taken Aztec Bromac $4.40 the place (and a small
investment at $26 the win). With the right trail into the race he can be a
show. Thought he was unlucky in the Vic Derby when working into the race and
was held up by Art Union locking wheels. Probably relying on a cart from Ideal
    For Real.

Race 6. Another very good Chariots of Fire. Hectorjayjay
could have won last week but for pilot error which provided Our Sky Major with
the saloon passage. He will have to work forward in this and I have him
breezing. Alta Jerome has brilliant gate speed and will lead from 4 then
probably hand up to Bling it On. Isaiah was good last week with a favourable
run but has shown the ability to run a fast mile which is needed here. I’m
taking Iam Mr Brightside each way. I’m a big fan of this horse and the draw has
finally gone in his favour. He finishes hard and will get an on pace run with
    cover.

Race 7. Beautide is odds on for a reason. I can’t see him
losing, not much else to say there. Might take some of the $8.50 a place Easy
On The Eye. Drawn 2 on the back row and either stays in the moving line or can
drop in behind For A Reason. He went well to run third in the Hunter Cup after
a 3 pegs run and I thought was pretty good to run second in his ID heat.

Race 8. A lot depends on whether or not SSL stays down
and pacing. From the draw Bettor Bet Black leads and rolls them along. I like
Franco Ledger to win this one with a late swoop and also Wartime Sweetheart to
hug the rails and pop up for a cheeky place. I don’t like BBL or SSL in
    anything over a mile.

Race 9. Idle Lea is a bullet from a stand start but has
to work around a few. She is usually my go to value place bet but needs to get
in front and be run down. Can’t see that happening here. I’ll go with Supper
Waltz Wilson to run down Lord Liam and Kyvalley Blur but not really keen on the
    race at all.

Race 10. Shannonsablast has been a frustrating commodity
and last start Tim Tetrick drove him apparently as he should be. Went to the
breeze and dictated from there. Ran fast time and did all the work. I’m happy to
follow him in again. Christian Sloy leads and gets rolling, If Laterron is
driven cold it will be running home into the frame and Stunin Banner gets a
cheap run. But I like Shannonsablast here again.

    Good luck.

Cheers GMac, great run down and far more info there than I would ever access. Looking forward to the racing on Sunday, will follow some of your thoughts. Somehow, I saw the Hayes interview with Tim Tetrick and heard the "great thrill at Menangle" comment....Tim was very user friendly in reply. It reminded me of those Molly Meldrum type questions of "how do you find Australia" being fired at international recording artists about 3 seconds after they stepped off the plane ....so much more to ask Tetrick other than that.

Great form analyst there and all the best on Sunday.

Good to see ID coming back to Perth in November.

Beautide for me. The way the draw is looks like it'll find the front and roll from there.

I don't know Michael Brennan but from what I read, a good person, and certainly not vindictive ....but I could understand him having similar thoughts about Panella. I'm Victorious could well have been going around today and in it up to his eyeballs.

Beautiful day here in Sydney town. Spent the morning at the beach with the kids, now to tuck in for lunch and 5 hours of top shelf harness racing. Christmas in March.

    Good luck lads.

Great work Sky Racing. The NSW Oaks has barely finished and we rush off to see a BM60 from Bathurst. Priorities.

I've just gotten home from giving Mr Horn a hand with a couple, recorded 520 thinking they'd be using that channel for full coverage, apparently not!

Amazing time, listened to it on the way home, wish they took on the big boys.

What a great mare...and she did it tough as well, never saw the markers until 100 from home. Stunning and what a great thing to see,  GMac. I am filing that replay forever. Probably the best mare in the world with those long easy strides, something to behold. MFS simply blew up, will need therapy after that.

Talk about a parade of champs, what a wonderful day's racing ...it is living up to and beyond expectations. Love it when the real champs prevail and For A Reason podiums and JJ collects the rent money after lumbering him with (for me) a sizeable place bet......off to the TAB to collect and consult the wise men of PubTAB corner and seek accolades for my "it's a sure thing for a place" prediction hahaha.

All I can say it must have been a rushed trip from the airport for M.Woodley obviously didn't get time to grab a form guide on the way to track ^#(^
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,677 posts
Good on you JJ. Pays to stick solid. How about Flaming Flutter. Ultra consistent. What more can be said about Adore Me and Beautide? This is what the track was built for. For us to sit back and watch the elite be let off the leash. Stunning racing. Of course, come Tuesday you will see a C0 on the same circuit and the narks will be out again about how boring big track racing is.

Can't wait for the ID in Perth. Can't wait for this day next year when the Miracle Mile is run in place of the ID Final. What a great race day they have created.

On Woodley, I am a huge fan of his but it isn't the first time I have seen a very good driver make some strange decisions on that track. Sometimes it's better to get a local.

Yes GMac, as I said earlier, I'm not a fan of the format but hats off to Harness NSW, they have created a Super Sunday and good for them...it's a showcase, simple as that, one that given the isolation geographically of Perth, we could never emulate. Credit where credit is due...it has forced me to put the "Bugger off, I'm Busy" sign on the front door. Great stuff.

Saw Follow The Stars make a mess of a pretty decent field in the Northern Derby Prelude at Auckland yesterday.......wonder how he would have gone in the NSW Derby today???

Don't know JJ. Would have been a welcome addition to the race though.

    So which was better?
    Adore Me melting the clock?
Or Beautide just doing his usual on the top shelf when it matters?
  • canardlywalkcanardlywalk    19 posts
    Adore me hands down
  • JayJayJayJay    8,623 posts
Both superb....Adore Me out of this world, Beautide just smashed them. Think I would knock up a back yard stable for either of them.

I hope that too VK. Just don't hope they contest a WAPC or Freo Cup prior. They won't. Seems the modern standardbred won't go that long. And hope they draw well In all the heats and more importantly the final. Would hate to see sometjingiss out on a final because of barrier draws.

That track at Menangle allowed those performances. Those performances are what the game is about. Yes, C0 racing on a big track is boring. But that today was extraordinary.

Stewards report.Majorly Foxy Styx broken gear (undercheck) in running. Explains the deal a bit and why she broke but wouldn't have troubled anything. All drivers complained to the stewards about Adore Me not playing fair.
