R1. Perth Racing Twitter Handicap - Scott Embry
I'm always a fan of horses dropping back from 2000m to a mile so I suppose the same theory applies 2200m back to 1800. Dark Alert was enormous on Perth Cup Day. Watching the replay he sat 3 deep, mainly without cover, for the entire journey and was too strong for subsequent winner Don'tgetcaught. That form looks pretty strong and in a very even race with W.Pike teaming up with Adam Durrant I'll pop him on top. Ideal Image was unbelievably impressive in thrashing rivals in the La Trice. Cosmic Storm looked the best on paper but was left in the stablemates dust as she left them for dead over the final furlong. Vampi Lass ran second and that reads well enough to be strong in this company. Thunderclap Newman has turned a corner since being allowed to roll out in front but has to content with 59kg. A very even race and not one I'll be playing heavily in.

I was pretty keen on One Short in the opening 5 horse farce on Wednesday at Pinjarra because of the high opinion I hold on The Celt. By no means is he in the same class as The River was last weekend but this is a weaker field more akin to a midweeker than a Saturday. Was nigged at in the trial but when Carbery showed him the whip he really found and was pulling away late suggesting that 1200m will be right up his alley. Settled well in the run and had no trouble with other horses so should be able to take full advantage of the gun draw. I'll pop him on top on debut. Stored Energy was good late on debut and should appreciate another 100m to wind up. His trial before that was super and I think he is the main danger. Guest Express was backed with stolen money on debut for trainer Simon Miller. $7.50 into $3.80 was an approximation of the ridiculous fluctuations. He worked and sat outside the leader and was gunned down late by Diamond Princess. Pretty confident he will find the lead here and can definitely turn the tables on the favourite.
8. THE CELT - 10. STORED ENERGY - 2. GUEST EXPRESS

Trilled to see The Pontiff riding at 54.5kg. I can't remember the last time he managed to do that and it's given me the confidence to put Tudor Bolt on top. I'm not a massive fan of the horse but it was hard to ignore his fast finishing second to Vengabus when that galloper was allowed to get away with murder up front with Knuckey crossing to lead and hitting the breaks harder than an old lady on a rainy winters day. Tipping Tudor Bolt, who was fairly luckless last start to bounce back into the winners enclosure and think we may just be seeing a return to form from Paul Harvey in the saddle. The Dankster was excellent last start and has a top class career record. A 50% top 2 record after 18 starts says it all and he is super consistent once he reaches peak form. New Time is forced to carry the grandstand but more than capable of bobbing up at odds. There was specing for him last start and he did hit the line well after a bit of a tussle with peak hour traffic. Hoping the Pontiff's weight drop can pay early dividends.
7. TUDOR BOLT - 4. THE DANSKTER - 1. NEW TIME
SUGGESTED BET - 7. TUDOR BOLT $50
Cone Bay simply could not have been more impressive first-up when an effortless 5 length winner leading from start to finish. From barrier 3 Kyra Yuill should have no troubles at all finding the fence and from there it is her race to lose. Big, strong horse, a real eye catcher in the mounting yard and I think 1400m will be to his liking. I expect him to rock and roll forwards and put these mediocre galloper to the sword. Putting him in the book as the best bet on the card and the one which will make or break my wallet. Great Shot has looked impressive in both career runs to date, winning on both occasions, but will probably be forced to sit outside the favourite and could easily be gassed in running and fade out of the finish. Again throwing in Glitterbell as the value runner to the trifecta. Paid dividends for us last start and from a handy draw can sit just off the speed and do it again.
7. CONE BAY - 6. GREAT SHOT - 5. GLITTERBELL
SUGGESTED BET - 7. CONE BAY $100
In a race which I'm sure many have labeled as a 2 horse race I'm going with the lesser of the two fancies and tipping against the cerise and white and the throttle hold they have over racing in WA. Sixpence Spent should be suited to a typically leader bias Ascot track and does meet main rival Paris Dream 1kg better for their last start encounter. Sixpence Spent scratched from a very, very winnable race at Bunbury on Thursday to be saved for this and I'll put my faith in Whiting to find the lead without spending a lot of petrol and being able to steal the race at the top of the home straight. Paris Dream got the run of the race behind the leader and took inside runs to beat him. This will test. Silver Romance was ridden cold first-up and looked as though he was in need of the run. Hit the line very hard and if you're looking for a blowout in the quaddie then I think he is the one. Max Almighty is closing in on a win and he is the fourth horse in my opening quaddie leg.
9. SIXPENCE SPENT - 11. PARIS DREAM - 10. SILVER ROMANCE (NZ)
SUGGESTED BET - 9. SIXPENCE SPENT $10 x $40
Lucky Street was super in the Summer Scorcher after drawing wide, working forwards, settling 3 deep with cover and then peeling out 4 wide before the home corner to make a run at Sheidel and almost nabbing her on the line. The difference in this race is Paul Harvey taking over from Shaun McGruddy and the fact there is no other noted leader in the race which should ensure The Pontiff takes up the running and leads them. Once he finds the fence he will be incredibly hard to run down. Meets a galloper like Silverstream 2kg better at the weights for a tiny margin a few starts back and is undefeated at 1100m and practically undefeated when able to lead. The only real danger looks to be First Among Equals, a highly talented galloper who was also excellent in the Summer Scorcher. Worked into clear running after settling 3 back the fence and attacked the line suggesting 1100m second-up would be his go. Minor end of a very popular exacta. Rock Magic is severely hampered at the weights scale forced to carry 5kg more than any other runner. Big respect for any top 4 finish by him.
5. LUCKY STREET - 3. FIRST AMONG EQUALS - 1. ROCK MAGIC

I think it is full steam ahead for Onadowntowntrain here finally dropping back to a realistic winning trip. 1000m is his go. His 4 career runs have all come at 1000m. Last 3 runs you can basically forget, 1100m and 1200m are simply beyond him. First two runs this preparation were in 72+ grade against quality horses like Liberty's Gem, Silverstream, Lucky Street, Dueton and Madassa. Finally gets back to 1000m and drops into a 60+ handicap. The last time Onadowntowntrain ran in a 60+ he won and is a previous 72+ winner. Carries 57.5 after the claim for Kate Witten who I am hoping can just unleash him from the barrier and need to do nothing more than steer out in front and play catch me if you can. Specing him at odds in the third leg of the quaddie. Without offence to any other runner I really only see Universal Moon as the danger. His last start effort behind Aunty Zelma after missing the kick was sensational and with a career record of 3 wins and 3 minors from just 7 starts he really is a safe eachway investement. I'll be backing both Onadowntowntrain and Universal Moon expecting one of them to get the job done. Next best Brackets who comes from the strong Volkoff form lines.

Hoping that by the last I've made enough coin to cover the days investments in beer and racing because there is no easy get out in the last from Ascot. Kim Command is a wet track specialist and looks unsuited to summer racing at Ascot in races which are less than 2000m so I'm saying he can't win but the other 10 runners all have legitimate winning claims. I'll be taking 10 of the 11 in the last leg of the quaddie and definitely not going to chase any lost dollar bills. From a tipping perspective I'm going with the roughie of the field in Star Bay. The massive 4 year old rig was excellent first-up and then was left floundering back in the field on a heavily leader bias Bunbury track. On the 54kg minimum drawn barrier 5 I expect Steve Parnham to have the big fella rolling into the race 3 wide from the 800 and really making it a genuine race. If he goes forwards I'm confident he will run a cheeky race at odds. King Of Wu loves Ascot and is as genuine as they come, highly consistent, drawn beautifully and will appreciate a weight relief. Fo' Shizzle is as tough as they come and will be up on speed and fighting to the line as always. PTT Quaddie Club: 2,9,10,11 / 5 / 1,4 / 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 - $100 = 125%
