R1. Flying Colours Summer Special Handicap - Chris Nelson

Pretty happy to be writing this preview, on a plane to Melbourne for a weekend of Australia Open, Big Bash Semi Final and Mooney Valley with a bunch of ripping blokes and a fella called Dylan. Thinking that the Pontiff of old has returned and he can get us off to a start with big impressive filly Peggy Sue. Was outstanding on debut when caught wide throughout and then won when she was supposed to last start in impressive style. Harvey should be camped right behind them and ready to pounce. The Blue Nipper is still a maiden and forced to carry the full 59kg but after an encouraging second to up and comer Lite'n In My Veins he should go close to cracking it for a win. Forty Four Red was an alarming drifter at Bunbury, $1.80 out to $3 but got the job done. Capable of leading throughout the showy chestnut should give a solid account.

6. PEGGY SUE - 1. THE BLUE NIPPER - 2. FORTY FOUR RED

R2. Australia Day Cup - Chris Nelson

I'm going to mark Reflectance as the Best Bet on the card. Without any fixed odds markets available I'm pretty in the dark as to whether or not he will be an eachway price but I'd say unlikely. Thinking Vengabus will be the favourite after another start to finish victory last start but here's hoping an even playing field presents itself on Saturday and I think carrying a remarkably low weight of 51.5kg for 3 kilo claimer Randy Tan he can get the job done and finish over the top. Had my doubts about him dropping back to 1200m last start and stayed away, a successful move. I think scratching him from the Mungrup Sprint at Mt Barker will prove to be a master stroke as he falls into a very winnable race here. Vengabus hardest to catch but vulnerable at 1500m while New Time is ready to show his best after lumping some ridiculous weights his past few starts.

    4. REFLECTANCE - 3. VENGABUS - 1. NEW TIME

    SUGGESTED BET - 4. REFLECTANCE $100

R3. Amelia Park Plate - Chris Nelson

Rhi's Rocket was speced at odds to knock off boom Casey galloper Vega Magic and really poured the pressure on throughout before fading into third beaten just over 2 lengths. Should find the front easily here in a small field and from there dictates and probably wins. Thinking the former NSW gelding will be pretty short in the market but obviously hard to beat. Viking Forrest was a drifter first-up and missed the kick before getting all the runs and scoring a narrow but impressive victory. He rises 2kg on that run and it did look as if Diamond Tonique potentially had him covered had he got clear galloping room. Willing to forgive the run and say that Diamond Tonique will turn the tables on the more favoured Viking Forrest. Dreamtime Dancer is a galloper I have a big opinion of but will probably need further than the 1100m. Hoping to jump aboard second-up after an encouraging first-up display.

    3. RHI'S ROCKET - 1. DIAMOND TONIQUE - 5. DREAMTIME DANCER

R4. Perth Racing #ascothappens Plate - Chris Nelson

Absolutely no surprise at all to see a Trevor Andrews quinella in the 2 year old race. Sticking with the debutant winner The River. He was green as grass and still managed to get the job done over a pretty handy pairing in Next Generation and Speeding Comet. Should relish another 100m and with natural improvement second-up shapes as the other Best Bet on the card. Likely to be short and sweet, put in-take out. Paul Harvey jumps onto Trademark and he ran very well on debut, sprinting straight past Next Generation, who ran third to The River. Sure to test the favourite and stablemate but I think The River is one of the better, if not, best, two year olds we've seen so far. Beyond those two Simon Miller gets his juveniles up and running early on and after burning through some serious cash on Wednesday will be looking to find a winner.

    1. THE RIVER - 2. TRADEMARK - 4. FOUR WHITE FOX

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. THE RIVER $100

R5. Membership Pro-rata Rates Handicap - Chris Nelson

Breaking all the rules here and putting my own horse Savanarola on top. This looks very winnable after a rough gig in the Perth Cup. Drawn very wide he was swimming in alcohol fumes from the crowd as the starter pressed go and was thereafter caught 3 deep, mostly without cover, for the entire trip before sweeping forwards behind Kirov Boy at the 800 and was a goner by the home turn. With a 3 week freshen and a 3kg claim to CJP this looks a very winnable assignment for our glamorous grey. 2 starts back Savanarola safely accounted for both Go Tiger and Flying Force and should do again. Quite Regal only just got over the top of Flying Force at Pinjarra and meets that galloper 1.5kg worse at the weights. Thinking on the 54kg minimum that Flying Force can turn the tables on Quite Regal, with those two gallopers the logical challengers. The money came for Cougar Express last start but he failed to live up to expectations. Harvey teams up with Lindsey Smith and they have a strike rate that Chris Gayle would be proud of. Could get pretty rowdy at in the Mooney Valley members at about 6:30pm if the #rola wins.

    1. SAVANAROLA - 7. FLYING FORCE - 4. QUITE REGAL

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. SAVANAROLA $50 x $50

R6. Vale Michael \'mick\' Taylor Handicap - Chris Nelson

Completely in the dark without any fixed odds available currently but I'm hoping that we can get an eachway price about Clobberetta in the sixth. Last start settled last behind impressive midweek filly Cool Passion and was peeling ground off her late. Harvey sticks and from a pretty favourable draw he should settle closer to the leaders this time. Travellin' was doing just that last start, and with 600m to run you could just tell he was going to win and win convincingly. Drops 1kg on that victory and doesn't meet a much tougher band of horses. Next Contestant drops back from 1500 to 1200 which is a bit of a question mark for mine but did run really well behind Antique Dream, beating home the more favoured stablemate in Stocks. Disco Metal was scratched from Wednesday and saved for this. Tough on-paced who should lead them up to the turn. Riki Tiki Tavi ran an eye catcher first-up and all the Bob Turrell horses go well early on in their preparations. Dendee is the winner of 4 from 9 and has the blinkers added to race gear to try and sharpen her up for a drop back in distance. Wide open race where almost all of them can win.

    7. CLOBBERETTA - 2. TRAVELLIN' - 1. NEXT CONTESTANT

R7. Wa Bush Fire Appeal Raceday - Feb 20 Handicap - Chris Nelson

Another open leg of the quaddie and not a race I'm overly keen to play in. I've settled on Saker who finally cracked it for another win after a short career riddled with bridesmaid performances. Lucy gave him a text book ride last start and simply had to win. He'll most likely be favourite here and I wouldn't be getting fiscally involved in anything less than $4.50. This field has some depth to it and it would be no surprise to see a result thrown up. O'Reilly's Crumpet was excellent first-up over 1500 at Pinjarra when settling last and really extending nicely late. Won second-up in his first preparation and can go close again here. Socially Unique settled at the tail of the field last week and when Jason Brown threw out the anchor on the well tried Baraki Beats it was always going to be hard work for Pike. 1800 looks as though it will suit and he is a realistic chance. Night Prowler only seems to be able to bob up when his odds are more than 20-1 so I'm sure the horse will be eagerly be checking betfair in the mounting yard prior to the race. Rodeo Drive is as consistent as they come and likely to be there abouts again. A wide leg of the quaddie for me because while I have the likely favourite on top I think he is very beatable.

    2. SAKER - 12. O'REILLY'S CRUMPET (NZ) - 8. SOCIALLY UNIQUE

R8. Stone Motherless After Race 8 Handicap - Chris Nelson

Same as last weeks card there is definitely no easy get out. Expecting eachway the field in this and with Red Ora drawing barrier 16 of 16 coupled with the 61.5kg impost I think it should be a very interesting betting affair. I settled on Crown Lawyer who possesses an imposing first-up record, a gun barrier draw and comes to the races off the back of an effortless trial. Finished almost 5 lengths behind Lite'n In My Veins at the trials but was very well held and having already won twice first-up in the past I think he can run a cheeky race here. Red Ora has everything against him but oozes class. If you have any doubts over the horse at all watch his scintillating run in the Hannans last start. Volkoff is the new kid on the block having strung together two highly impressive wins. On the 54kg minimum will be hard to hold out late. Flytego has to contend with a bitter barrier blow but is a very handy type. Winning chances galore in the last, including both the emergencies in Outlaw Pete and Calabria Joe should they get a run. PTT Quaddie Club: 1 / 1,2,3,7,8,12 / 2,3,5,8,12 / 1,2,6,9,11,14,15 - $100 = 48%

    9. CROWN LAWYER - 1. RED ORA - 14. VOLKOFF

Struggling to pick one but in R5 Immense is not a $51 chance. Poorly ridden last start and is an each way chance in this

I'm looking to find The Blue Nipper in The River.
I really respect the Morton's Chelse, but Lolong has burnt me too often. He can't seem to quicken in those country maidens. But if someone can produce a dramatic improvement it'd be that stable.
The Parnhams havnt had many city winners lately, so I was hoping that the form of TBN in really good company could be the deciding factor.
The last 600 on The River was v good and he beat the Miller 2yo who I thought would win that day.

How about Rodeo Drive with some luck today?
