R1. Lunar Raceday On Feb 13 Plate - Scott Embry

The fields for todays meet reminds me a bit of myself, small but enticing. Guest express is the first of the 4 odds on favourites in these small fields and from barrier 1 looks the one to beat. However, I was quite impressed with the run of the David Harrison Trained Equine Wiz, which comes from the same race as the short price elect. It missed the kick, ran wide for majority of the race and ran on strongly from the back of the field. I am a huge fan of Blinkers going on to 2 year olds on their second start after showing some form of ability and running on in their first race. Equine Wiz should hopefully settle a bit closer and run over the top of this field, in which I think lacks depth even with just 7 runners. Simon Miller is renowned for crunching his horses in the betting markets when they are a good thing, so don't be surprised to see the shorts get taken and it lead all the way and win. I can't see Tide Up changing the tables on either of the 2 top weights and I was not overly impressed with the triallers. Will throw one of the Parnham triallers, Rock River in for third. Raced very very greenly in his only trial over 400m, but once settled finished off strongly. One to follow after a bit of maturing.

2. EQUINE WIZ - 1. GUEST EXPRESS - 4. ROCK RIVER

SUGGESTED BET - 2. EQUINE WIZ $25 x $25
+1 -1

Yet another small field and yet another short priced favourite in the likes of Blackwood.

She will not be seeing any more of my money that's for sure as she emptied my pockets faster than my last appearance at the strippers.

Wide race, and just like my mate sticks when it's his round, I will be keeping my wallet closed.

R2. Waitangi Day Next Saturday At Ascot Plate - Scott Embry

Here we see the return of the highly talented filly in Hot Goods, undefeated in her 5 career starts and looks set to take care of these gallopers with ease to make it 6 from 6. Trialled super impressively under double wraps by Lucy in good time, with only the Fred Kersly trained Lite'n In My Veins running a quicker time on the day. From barrier 4 Lucy should take her straight to the front where she will dictate terms, kick away and win under a firm hold. The only slight concern is carrying 58.5kg for the first time, but I don't think that will worry her at all and she just wins. I was quite impressed with the run of It's Dynamite behind Rhi's Rocket, who I have a very high opinion of, and with pike jumping on board it looks to be a good place bet if the favourite is too short for your liking. Le Petron was a good fast finishing last start victory running over the top of brisanto and castle queen but may find trouble from barrier 1. Of the others I think we will see a much better run from I Do De Claire who looks to be solely a 100m horse. But they will all be running to fill up the minor placings behind this hot filly.

    1. HOT GOODS - 3. IT'S DYNAMITE - 4. LE PATRON

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. HOT GOODS $100

R3. Flying Colours Madfish Promotion Plate - Scott Embry

Yet another small field and yet another short priced favourite in the likes of Blackwood. Returns after a short let up and quite a dissapointing (and money burning) last campaign. It is a massive drop in class for the blackfriars filly but will need to lug the 58.5kg for the first time in her career. I feel the early price of $1.50 is way too short that there is value elsewhere. She will not be seeing any more of my money that's for sure as she emptied my pockets faster than my last appearance at the strippers. The value runner in the race, and where my money will be, is the Magnus gelding in Great Shot. 2 wins from 3 starts and a good 2nd in Saturday company behind Glitterbell, with the addition of blinkers I feel he can upset this short priced favourite and is a very good each way bet. The Blue Nipper won well last start and will look like a definite chance halfway down the straight. Blackwood on top, however Great Shot the Value.

    1. BLACKWOOD - 4. GREAT SHOT - 3. THE BLUE NIPPER

    SUGGESTED BET - 4. GREAT SHOT $25 x $50

R4. Happy 60th Birthday Ray Collins Handicap - Scott Embry

Finally a race with more than 7 runners, and another short priced favourite involved. The Durrant trained gelding steps back up to 2100m and guns for 3 victories in a row. With Pike on board it is the deserving favourite, but not my on top selection. In a wide open affair I'm going to throw the light weight Uncle George on top for a bit of value. Has been well supported in its last 2 runs, and they were better than what they read. It will enjoy the step up in distance and should get a good run from barrier 4. Dark alert has shown that it is a very tough horse and like always will be grinding away down the straight. Tarquinn shadow gave punters a great sight when almost leading from start to finish before just being run down by the favourite, however if it can run out the distance I think it can turn the tables. Saxy Grace is third up over a distance and will definitely show improvement from its first two runs, and you always have to respect Durrant in a distance race. Has won third up before and if their is money, I'll definitely be following and throwing some on each way. Cougar Express is not suited with the drop in distance and Fulgar needs a softer track. Wide race, and just like my mate sticks when it's his round, I will be keeping my wallet closed.

    9. UNCLE GEORGE - 5. DARK ALERT - 2. TARQUINN SHADOW

R5. Vale Jeremy Hayes Handicap - Scott Embry

A good, open race to start off the quaddie legs with 6 out of the 9 runners opening up under $10. Classical prince sat 3 wide in it's first up run behind Kennocha and fought on strongly to only be beaten 0.5L. Should hopefully be given a better run by Mitchell and with that, should go very close to winning this race. Another horse from the same race that took my eye was the David harrison trained horse in Universal Moon. Has only missed a place once in it's career and from a nice gate should get a good toe in and be hard to hold out. An interesting runner here is the 6 in Wise Decision. Has annihilated his oponents winning 4 on the trot on the dirt track up in Broome. Has never missed a place in his career and is one you need to include into your quaddies and novelties. Pernella miss trialled very nicely back on the 18th of January running the fastest time of the day under a strong hold and runs well fresh. Secret Nova drops massively in class after leading all the way to victory last start. Randy Tan jumps on for the allow but from barrier 8 and a decent amount of speed in the race he may get caught out wide. Gigante is another of Taylor's that drops massively in class but has been rather dissapointing so far this campaign. Both will be left out of my Quaddie.

    4. CLASSICAL PRINCE (NZ) - 7. UNIVERSAL MOON - 6. WISE DECISION

R6. Scenic Blast Stakes - Scott Embry

A small but quality field to go around and fight it out for the Scenic Blast Stakes. Red Ora returns first up without a trial after being tipped out when flying home with the 59kg to finish 3rd in the Hannans Handicap. Pike jumps off silverstream to ride Red Ora and on the minimum I find it very hard to see him getting beaten. Loves the distance, loves the track and labelling him my best bet of the day. First among equals was a solid run in the Andretti stakes behind lucky street missing out by the smallest of margins. Is undefeated at the distance, has race fitness on its side and is the only danger to Red Ora. Rebel King is second up after a good run behind Sheidel and should fill out the minor placings. Silverstream is finally back to 1200m, however has not done overly much apart from the fast finishing 4th in the Winterbottom back in November. Rock Magic should get a good run from barrier 3 but has to carry the 59kg. Very excited to see Red Ora back and looking forward to seeing the sea of red jackets in the owners section of the grand stand.

    5. RED ORA - 2. FIRST AMONG EQUALS - 4. REBEL KING

    SUGGESTED BET - 5. RED ORA $100

R7. Raceday Hospitality At Ascot Handicap - Scott Embry

Hopefully we see Pike steer Red Ora to victory in the previous race and is full of confidence to ride a race to race double. Has the ride on Crystal Gardens for Adam Durrant, and interestingly has decided to ride it over the Bob Peters horse Paris Dream. Crystal Gardens has been closing in on a win and her last few runs in mid week company have been encouraging and today is his day to breakthrough. Will relish the 1600m and will be storming home late. Flying image is one that I will throw into 2nd at odds. Won well first up leading all the way over 1400m. Hasn't been suited in it's last 2 starts and will enjoy stepping up to 1600m and a drop in weight. Wouldn't be surprised to see him jump to the front and lead all the way. Paris Dream just missed out last start when it couldn't run down the top weight here in Muskets at Dawn. Will struggle from barrier 1 and will need a stellar ride from apprentice Clint Johnston-Porter to get the money. The 2 Mathews trained Gallopers Nullaki and Warbrook have been their abouts in the previous runs and deserve to be considered and included in your any of your novelties. Muskets at Dawn was very heavily supported last start 16s into 6s and dually saluted, however was getting swamped at the finish and the 1600m seems a bit of a stretch. Silver romance loses Shaun O'donnell and picks up Camilleri and will be out classed here.

    5. CRYSTAL GARDENS - 7. FLYING IMAGE - 9. PARIS DREAM

    SUGGESTED BET - 5. CRYSTAL GARDENS $25 x $25

R8. In The Memory Of Max Simmonds Oam - Scott Embry

Baraki beats finally broke through last start, and unsurprisingly led from start to finish. I am a firm believer that this horse has to lead to win. I feel that there is enough speed in this race through corporate larrikin and right honourable to make it a risk in this open final race. Paseo Del Prado's first 2 runs this preperation have been super and has shown enough for me to put him on top. Was flying home late last start and would have got Baraki Beats within a couple more strides. Kheleva gains the services of Randy Tan who is in quite a rich vein of form at the minute and keeps riding home winners, and at at decent prices too. Will enjoy the step up to 1400m and will be coming home late alondside Paseo Del Prado. Tonto resumes from a spell after finally showing some form of grit and guts last campaign and certainly be winning some good races. Has won over 1400m before and normally runs well fresh. Full steam ahead is first up with the Jim Taylor stable but is a horse which generally needs a senior jockey on board but definitely has ability. Zarantz has good first up form and with Harvey taking the ride is not one to ignore but is one that will improve as the distant increases. Futurism is not a horse of mine but was solid last start running on into 2nd behind vengabus and on that run should be closely watched.

    11. PASEO DEL PRADO - 1. KHELEVA - 3. TONTO

    SUGGESTED BET - 11. PASEO DEL PRADO $15 x $15

The weather forecast tomorrow could play a significant role in what happens on the day ? Having a go and think that the first favourite (Guest Express) is too short and a RISK

there will be very good money for Fulgur today given its almost certain to rain. It was the better backed runner the day Dust Me Off won.

Very wet here in foothills and plenty of thunder n lightening
  • Wouldn't be Suprised at all if Hot Goods run into the placings at a price.
  • Tonto is the best of the day. Just don't wait until the bird has flown pike give it a couple of digs at about the 500m mark.

Baraki beats is an ordinary horse & zarantz can't win either.
