R1. Amelia Park Wines Handicap - Chris Nelson
This simply looks a 2 horse race on paper and while I'm almost certain Regal Commander will open up the shorter of the two I'm still putting him on top because W.Pike at his best is unbeatable. He is in scintillating form of recent times and should safely account for this lot as he rapidly rises through the grades. Had to work hard for it last time out over 1400 and looked like he was screaming out for this trip. Speculating to some degree that he will see out the trip but theres nothing to suggest he won't get it. North Ridge the minor leg of an even money type quinella. They are the class horses in the race and look set to battle out the finish. Throwing in Pushin' Shapes for third who is being tested at the trip. A lot of well respected punters froth a 3 year old taking on the older horses and he can figure in the finish.

Magnifisio is so highly rated these days that she'll have a very small and specific set of target races mapped out for her this preparation and this is surely one of them. Had 2 trials leading into this race and the last of those was super sharp. Has to lump 59.5kg and her first-up record isn't overly amazing but she is all talent and I think that Vaughn Sigley would have learnt a lot from her first preparation in the stable where she flopped first-up beaten by the bookie killer Akhedasset. She is a big lump of a mare and presumably this campaign Sigley has really pumped the work into her and she's ready to roll. Military Reign is tested in this company but flys fresh, undefeated, carries only a postage stamp weight of 53kg and has the services of W.Pike. Must respect her. Wink and a Nod was set for last weekends Grandstand Cup and when the rain fell I'm sure that Justin Warwick backed his Armaguard truck up to the TAB. She won and won convincingly. Drops back to 1200m which is a slight concern but should go close again.
1. MAGNIFISIO - 6. MILITARY REIGN - 2. WINK AND A NOD
Incredibly hard to tip against All Gee who has won 4 on the bounce including the Listed Raconteur last weekend in the wet where he held off Showy Chloe and gave a horse like Lite 'N' In My Veins a galloping exhibition. The 3 year old now drops to the 54kg and this race does look picture perfect for him. He'll be short and is on the weeks back up from a soft7 track but really should be winning. I'm Feelin' Lucky's first-up run was excellent after getting back in a leader dominated race and reeled off the fastest final 600m of the race eclipsing talented duo Regal Commander and Pounamu. Should derive natural improvement from that run and possibly ridden a little closer to the speed should run past most of these. They look the two on paper. All Gee to win and I'm Feelin Lucky the second leg of the quinella. Woodbine looks to be building into the preparation and his last start effort finishing alongside Terror Force and Carry The Nation looks a good form reference for a race of this quality.
4. ALL GEE - 3. I'M FEELING LUCKY - 1. WOODBINE
Will the real Kia Ora Koutou please stand up? Still happy enough with how I've played the 3 year old fellas so far. Laid Kia Ora Koutou first-up at a mile, was able to invest almost eachway second-up in the J.C Roberts and get most of it back and now should be peaking third up from a spell and most importantly steps up to a genuine trip for the first time. 2000m plus is clearly his go and he was only just getting warm late over the 1800m. That race should top him off nicely and allowed to settle towards the rear and gradually work through his gears I think he'll round this lot up. Straight at him, best bet on the card. Heart Starter has been a revelation since thumping a bunch of battlers in a Bunbury maiden and the half brother to Real Love looks destined for more quality prize money over the coming weeks. Cappo D'Oro needs closer to 3000m than 2000m but will give a genuine sight if Parnham is proactive and puts him into the race from the 1000 making it a true staying test.

Arcadia Dream was a slight question mark for mine at the staying trip but she certainly proved that query wrong. Did get a lovely run midfield and then towed into the race by Blackwood after Lucy Warwick possibly pulled the trigger a little early but once she balanced up it was all over and she ran them into the ground. Hard to see anything really changing here and at $1.80 I'm certain many will see that as 'value'. My old mate Blackwood was much better last start, specked in the market late at odds Lucy put her into the race and sat outside the more fancied Dreamtime Dancer before putting her to the sword at the 600 and racing away. Was left a sitting duck a long way from home and did well to battle on. Should be there abouts again. Indigo Ora was doing her best work late and is proven at this journey.
2. ARCADIA DREAM - 1. BLACKWOOD - 6. INDIGO ORA
SUGGESTED BET - 2. ARCADIA DREAM $100
The Karrakatta plate is always a cracking showcase of the best juvenile talent the state has to offer and the 2016 edition is no different. The market would suggest there are probably 5 horses who can't win leaving an ultra competitive field of 8. A 2 year old specialist tipster said to me during the week that he thought The River wasn't taking ground off Atacama Sky, it was more the fact Atacama Sky was stopping and looked under done. That being the case I'm willing to risk the favourite and chase some value. He is "super duper" keen on Saul's Special and I won't reveal him incase he gets beaten up for using the phrase "super duper". I've settled on Speeding Comet who I think will lead the race. Love a 2 year old out in front and with other noted Miller speedsters Whispering Brook and Atacama Sky drawn horribly I think Speeding Comet, and W.Pike, are being underestimated and getting under the radar. Saul's Special was outstanding on debut and the 1200m should suit him down to the ground while I'm hoping for a better showing from talented maiden galloper Stored Energy. Brilliant viewing, tough punting.
4. SPEEDING COMET - 6. SAUL'S SPECIAL - 12. STORED ENERGY
Going with War Prince off the back of two forgive and forget runs where he has been held up at crucial stages and blocked for clear running for probably a combined total of 2 furlongs. Drawn barrier 7, carrying 57kg for in-form apprentice Aaron Mitchell I think he'll be pretty hard to beat in the weekly Get Out Stakes. Is a model of consistency and deserves a little bit of luck to go his way because he could easily have won a couple in a row. Senso should again find the front and give them something to catch. The 3 year old was well supported first-up and lead them to the 100m. He'll give it a shake again. Mississippian was awefully flat first-up after an impressive trial. Won 3 races last preparation and really came of age as a galloper and is much better than that. Should see sharp improvement while Gigante is always around the mark and should get the softest of runs from barrier 1. PTT Quad: 1,2 / 1,2,9,10 / 1,2,4,6,10,11,12 / 3,4,7,9 - $100 = 45%
3. WAR PRINCE - 7. SENSO - 9. MISSISSIPPIAN
SUGGESTED BET - 3. WAR PRINCE $40 x $60
Press The Petal quoted at $17....... a maiden having it's 3rd race start going into a G1
