Controversial harness racing figure Chris Gleeson is free to re-apply for a licence after 14 years on the outer.

Gleeson's
lifetime ban over the infamous Coloresque incident was overturned in
August but a positive swab inquiry from 1996 still had to be heard
before he could put in a licence application.

On Tuesday, he was
found guilty of three charges relating to Cordon Bloke having an
elevated TCO2 level in May 1996 and disqualified for four years.

However
because he was serving his lifetime ban at the time the offences
occurred it was deemed the penalty had already been served.

Coloresque
failed to finish as short-priced favourite in a race at Harold Park on
November 14, 1995, and a subsequent marathon inquiry found the pacer's
hopples had been deliberately cut.

It was alleged Gleeson's
brother Matthew had placed a winning superfecta bet on the race,
omitting Coloresque from the first six placings for a net profit of
$12,000.

Chris and Matthew Gleeson were both given lifetime bans.

Harness
Racing NSW board members voted to lift Chris Gleeson's ban in August,
citing Bill And Robbie Waterhouse's return from a lifetime ban after 14
years as a precedent.

    Pretty sure Chris Gleesons brother went into a NSW TAB to collect the ticket. 8-|

    Colouresque ended up as one of the last horses that Lou Austin trained in Victoria. I think it is a very lenient decision to (a) allow him back and (b) to allow the swab charge penalty to be served concurrently but I guess he has served a long term.  The disparity in penalties across Australia is very disconcerting...surely there must be a degree of uniformity, allowing for the fact there are specific circumstances applicable in many instances.

    Think their were only 7 starters in that race , after the hopples broke...just 6.... Nice having the Superfecta knowing that was going to happen. But don't let any family member go in and collect the ticket!

    The old Superfecta bet is long gone and forgotten now...but I'm sure they will never forget. Especially the day they collected the ticket. Got one of the Superfectas exactly once...Tie The Knot won the race and fairly confident a horse called Universal Prince ran a close second , wanted the Prince to win then a much better dividend but alas Tie The Knot held on. But it still paid ok. Only one I ever got. Probably the six faves almost in order! Took them mostly on small fields and jackpot races but of course continually missed getting them. Glad they ditched them!

    Cordon Bloke I am pretty sure started his racing career in WA early to mid 90s may have been trained by Ian Davie or Sean Harney?

    You can't possibly be serious JJ, murderers and rapists get less time than what Gleeson has served, what do you want blood???

    Welcome back to the Colgate kid it's way beyond time.

    Sidenote: I actually put Chris onto Cordon Bloke when I was working in Sydney but it was one of the few that for whatever reason he couldn't get to run to its potential.

    I agree with most of your post but on this occasion you are playing with yourself.

    In addition concurrently in any legal justifiication racing or non racing is a joke. He should be serving a longer term. Defend him all you like but quite frankly why does he even deserve another go. Crooks like this should be banned all together.

    Your comparing a disqualification from attending race tracks and training horses with being locked up in a prison....and you accuse me of not being serious?? So, it's okay to let a person back after being convicted of rigging a race and a subsequent financial fraud? Not a very valid value set in my view.

    I worked for the late grate s.harney when he had "cookie " give it couple runs whilst getting to know him replaced ian davies as driver replaced with rod chambers 14/1 -2/1 never looked like getting beat :D

    Had a shocker of a night one night at GP , that was nothing new , then needed to have a very good bet on a horse driven by Rod Chambers in the last race ( to get out of the you know what ) ...it was a standing start..think about 7/1...was praying it would step and lead...miraculously it did...I finished up running up the straight on the grass with him all the way to the finishing line to make sure he got there! Think beat him home by a whisker. Fortunately he beat the rest. Just blowed if can remember the horses name. Was definitely the final race of the night and a stand. Nothing like having a Barry Crocker of a night and getting it all back on the last race. Did call out to Rod Chambers - 'Greatest drive I've ever seen!'

    What his silly brother did - was because of the cash transaction bill - any trade transaction over 10k in cash - then under the law you had to give your name and address - and Gleesons brother gave his real name and address !!!( and i think the total ticket was $10018 - just over the 10k) if had of been say $9995 - then there was no legal requirement to give your name . So thats how they identified who had the winning ticket - and that hung both of them . The hopples were sent to the University of NSW - and they determined they had been cut . His sister Tess was a very astute driver at the time - she also has recently returned - under the name Tess Wilkes - has a drive at Newcastle now and again

    And poor old Coloresque was a very moderate performer anyway. I think it won its next start after the Superfecta fiasco.....but only $40k in stakes over its entire career. They deserved all they got. Cutting gear is like loosening the wheel nuts on a race car, it could have caused a disaster.
