Trainer Belinda McCarthy Stood Down

Harness & Greyhounds
I see NSW stewards have stood down BM - Lukes wife - she has prepared 40 group 1 winners

Hasnt been charged with anything yet - re the horse Vinny Chase - but they did mention that the 3 things it tested positive to are banned at all times from standardbreds - so pretty serious positives - further testing then an inquiry

If - and i stress if - she is charged and found guilty - it will be interesting what the penalty will be - NSW are easily the harshest and most severe  penalties  anywhere in Australia - for instance Clint Hall and his 5 year ban for EPO over here  - if that had been NSW - he would have got 15-20 years ive got no doubt about that at all - one of the Chapple brothers - around the Maitland  area had an unblemished 20 year record - he had one positive to Cobalt - in the mild range - not way over the top and got 3 and a half years

I did read one report where Vinny Chase had only been in the stable for a little over a month and boldenone evidently can stay in the system for some time.

    Keep your powder dry Markovina.

Luke Teflon McCarthy will have no problem beating this charge. Oops I meant to say belinda.

They will throw the book at her, but Luke will just put the horses back in his name and continued on as if nothing ever happened. :-\" :-\"

I see high profile Queensland trainer Darel Graham was disqualified for 15 months for a cobalt positive

    200Ug/L is the limit

    (1) D Graham( Qld)  -  1 breach - reading 342   - 15mths penalty

    (2) D Chapple (nsw) 1 breach 250 reading 2.5 years ( 30 year history no priors ) - appealed it on severity - and still  got 2.5 years

    (3) L Coulson - 4 breaches - readings 720-1500 ( highest ever recorded in WA history ) and a prior conviction got  4.5 years

There is no consistency in Aust

In NSW - a cobalt positive ( doesnt matter what the reading -thus can be 201 ) is Class 1 - and that attracts 5 years - Chapple got 5 years - less 2.5years for 30 year clean history and character references

The interesting thing with the Chapple appeal is he picked up the horse from Ricky Thurlow who was training it in QLD - thus there was some debate could the high Cobalt be due to Thurlow - however the vet specialist said Cobalt comes out of the system very quickly - it was 250 one day and 10 the next - that suggests to me why some have tried to cheat

Caught out on phone charge records and text messages..the old phone calls and texts trick...you would think they would have learnt by now...the telephone is dangerous! Commonly known as evidence. Amazing how many crims get caught out with the phone but still do it. Just can't help themselves.

race 4 is the race that was investigated.

how many times did the driver in question take a long look around to see how far behind the second horse was. Dont know if this happens often in harness, but certainly looked suspicious.

Mobile phones for crime investigators is what penicillin was to the medical profession - extremely helpful. If every crook was to lay down their mobile phones very few would be caught. But unfortunately or fortunately some of them ain't that bright and as far as the disgruntled hoop who didn't think his name would was going to show up on the phone call to the chief steward. Check it out first and even then don't do it!! Every defence lawyer in the world cringe at mobile phone records...makes finger prints look obsolete.

I watched the race at Cobram - he did look around at the horse following him a hell of alot of times ( probably at least 10) and he did seem to have his eyes glued on the winner ( who only won by a half head ) all the way down down the straight - to see if it would win the race

However unless they have got incriminating phone taps - there is no way he will be suspended for the drive - he drew the outside of the front in a mile race - it led on its ear - it pulled its head off - so he let it bowl down the back - 2nd last qtr 27 - and it ran 3rd - so just  on the drive - there is no way he can go for that

Wheres the link to the phone taps - i cant see it anywhere in the report

Gee - Amandas father - Steve Turnbull - one of the greats in the sport - and a pretty honourable sort of person in my opinion isnt happy

A  few quotes from the Western Advocate

"We are all devasted - she is an innocent victim in the whole show " - interesting choice of words - draw your own conclusions

" She is so upset - she didnt even go to the meeting ( Cobram ). She is really stressed to think these allegations have come accross her name - she  is very shaken over the whole incident "

To suggest she is the "innocent victim in the whole show" would suggest not everyone is innocent in this whole show.

Amanda.....when you sleep dogs you get fleas.

$30k is a lot of money to be winning on a monday at cobram in a c class race.

I had a decent chuckle - i stumbled accross a NZ harness racing forum ( www.racecafe) on the topic

It was interesting what some of our Kiwi "friends " had to say about it - one bloke - "Another Aussie grub i hope he is rubbed out for life " - oh what a beauty

But one bloke threw a bit more light  on it - he reckons the winner was backed from $11 to $4 and he points out correctly that one of the stewards concerns was the training arrangements of the winner - his assertion (that although the winner was listed as being trained by D Bartley) that the horse was actually being trained on Nathan Jack and Amanda  Turnbulls property
