Thoughts here? We seem a bit light on for WA representation?

The one to watch - San Carlo. The WA inters experience will stand him in good stead.
Don't mind a couple at odds for the final - Cash 'N Flow and what we often say in the game...Let It Ride!

Sadly, for a number of reasons, it is a pretty ordinary series, no where near the quality we had over here for our 3 year stint. Retirements, injuries, just a shortage of top shelf horses....and much lower levels of stakemoney.....trying hard to get interested but difficult.

Bit hard to fathom inters worth 500k final        miracle mile 750k         w.a pacing cup worth 450k  this year,, taken the gloss off the inters...

Heat One to the Kiwis and Heat Two to the Sandgropers.
    $12 and $10.
    A very wide open series.

Rarely seen Spankem run a bad race.

WA's Galactic Star just continues the amazing run from the Bond stable and wins at a nice price to boot in Heat 2.
The Kiwi All Stars team clean up the other 2 Heats pretty easily.

San Carlo - was ok but more mellow on his chances. He'll need everything to go right. Looked battling near the corner, did fight on pretty well.

The good thing about the three heats preceding the final is that you can change the mind a few times!
After tonight it's Tiger Tara and Cruz Bromac looking the ones to beat.

As far as Let It Ride goes - awful, went five feet and said barleese.
But why he came off the pegs when following the certain Quinella runners Cruz Bromac and Cash 'N Flow - seemed a bit strange. Nevertheless was ordinary.

Just the one bet for the second round of heats - Maximan was a huge effort when placed in the first round of heats - has the soft draw on night two - $1.90 a place - that's the one!

Just going back through the form on Maximan was placed a few runs ago at Menangle at 150/1 and is ten years old. Ouch.
Will need to be leaders back! Is racing in great heart.

The trotters heat clash Speeding Spur and Tornado Valley should be a cracker.

5 scratchings out of the Series for tomorrow nights Ballarat heats....Shadow Sax, Let It Ride, Burnaholeinmypocket, Italian Delight and It Is Billy .....they aren't having much luck and it might be a good year for horses not in the Super Star category, Gone from gloss to satin to flat white, disappointing.

In one of the heats Tabtouch market goes like this...
    I'm Pats Delight $1.16
    I'm The Boss $4.40
    Franco Nelson $5.00
    Joes Star Of Mia $8.00
Cash 'N Flow $15.00....and so it goes.

The betting % in their favour is the equilavent to having about 8 zero's on a roulette table.
How can you possibly frame a market like that. It's a joke.

  • 2 scratching's because of bloods taken. See Kimberly Butt gets online and gives HRV and the stewards a cook. Rules are Rules. I have no issue with it.
  • JayJayJayJay    7,629 posts
After the way they went Saturday Night, taking bloods was totally understandable but should have been done on the Sunday, not on the Monday.
  • If they wanted to take them Monday, Contact the stewards who would have sent someone out to oversea the procedure and then it would have all been ok. Has happened before that way with no issues

Sprint lane in operation at ballarat  tonight made the change so the three  venues  holding the heats melton ,cranborune, and now  ballarat               commonsense approach..

Before the first round of heats Cruz Bromac was $9 to win all three heats and the final.

Didn't appear great odds but not beyond the realms of possibility. He's flying for them. Always had great ability but could do a few things wrong and prove costly, but those Kiwis have got him in the zone.

The trotters heat looks a dead set Quinella between Speeding Spur and Tornado Valley. It's about 20/1 bar three but if any of the three do anything wrong then Tough Monarch at around $3.50 a place will come right into contention for a drum.

Riders old mate, a little known fact, but ancient and wise Chinese philosopher Confucius was a fan of Harness Racing....and a recently discovered ancient rock tablet was inscribed with the immortal words "He who investeth on the square gaiter has no respect for his hard earned"......Lovely to watch in full flight but as a betting proposition, it is a one way ticket to the poor house.

After watching the Pinjarra trotters race the other day, glad very rarely bet on them.
The price of the favourite, sheeesh should have been 3/1 about it just trotting.
They went every which way and the $1.45 fave pulled out of the event.
Seen it happen that many times in the trotters.
Then get a trotter like Kell Road Kid who trots well all the way - very slowly.

The more see of Spankem the more like him. Tiger Tara outstanding too.
Add Pats Delight and Cruz Bromac and they look the four.

They love San Carlo in Melbourne but have to now pass on him. Too short in the market. Should be double figures.

Maximan the old sit behind the favourite with a sprint lane and still can't run a place trick.
Although the two that passed him Tiger Tara and Spankem are top class.

Spot on Riders re the over the top San Carlo love from the Vics on Sky sheesh!!  8-|
Galactic Star ran another very nice race to finish 3rd following on from his Heat win on Saturday.
Spankem and Cruz Bromac look hard to beat in the Final and the tough old warrior Tiger Tara can never be discounted.

Forget about San Carlo needing a draw of 1-5 to win the final. He needs the one.

Was great having it on Sky2 for free...great move that one.
Pats Delight is a good price at $8 but before the barrier draw any bet is fraught with danger.

At the moment for me in order....
    1. Spankem
    2. I'm Pats Delight
    3. Tiger Tara
    4. Cruz Bromac
    5. Galactic Star
    6. Wrappers Delight
    7. San Carlo

How much stronger is Tiger Tara. Two or three years ago could be found wanting over the concluding stages when leading. He's much tougher now. They wouldn't beat him if he went to the front and can win coming from behind with even luck.

Whirly Dream Riders there was a blast from the past. He raced in WA for a while when Lance Justice was stationed here for a bit must have been around the 1987/88 era?!

Haha yes for some reason had Whirly Dream on the noggin...meant Wrappers Delight! Have changed it. Can recall Lisa Justice driving Whirly Dream in that era.

Was thinking of the little champ Wondais Mate the other day...am a moral to tip him next. Pity Queensland hasn't got another one like him in the series. Brisbane pacing has slipped.

Whirley Dream won 70 races, an amazing 33 of them at Globe Derby Park, and the rest of his wins at about every other registered track in Australia.....and banked over $470k which was a fortune in the mid 80's.

When the standard of pacing in SA was very good.
That was the thing with trotter Rock N Roll Baby at $1.45 the other day and will probably win races under the guidance of G. Hall, but heard someone say it had excellent Globe Derby form - red flag...red flag.

QLDs Wondais Mate was another ripper from the mid 80s he was a regular visitor to the West back then along with Gammalite and others from Vic. He was the best pacer I had seen from QLD before the incredible Blacks A Fake came along. Whirley Dream was one of the best from SA from memory Justice also brought another handy one over with him called Springfield Rajah or similar?

She's no fool in the spider Kylie Rasmussen - can mix it with the best of them. Her driving has got better and better - very astute.
  • JayJayJayJay    7,629 posts
Springfield Rajah it was VK, he was with Henry Mcdermot before Justice got him. He won 40 races but not in the same paddock as Whirley Dream, he only won 10 at Globe Derby.
