Pretty disappointing field with only the 7 runners.

May as well just have a field of two. Unless Tellem We're Comin can rediscover its form then it looks to be a deadset match race between Free Trade & Flower Of War.

I know  the bunbury business community were irked when RWWA/PR changed the "round" from stakes on the Tuesday and cup on the Thursday. cost the town a lot of income as a lot of folk would stay down for 2 nights.
    7 runners...scared of the handicapper??

Falcon, absolutely kidding yourself if you think people in this day and age are going to Bunbury midweek, for three days to watch predominantly average races.

Platoon might be the knock out.
Tell 'Em Were Comin - that'd be the greatest turnaround since Glastonbury won the 94 AJC Metropolitan.

Flower Of War - consistent as clockwork, big chance.
Free Trade - just $1.65 their are a hardy lot odds on fave backers - good luck at the approximate 4/7.

    1000/1 the other three.

More like 8/13 - $1.65...was talking to a young bloke the other day - rapt he got $5 about something - or as he said 5/1....sheeeesh that's 4/1!

Decimal odds - a blight on the game, UK still uses the fractions so should we.

I think the way the programming is, this will become the norm, until it is rectified. If there were higher-rated standard races on a regular basis, this race would be more like a 96+ or even higher and it would be available to better types (the likes of whom are currently spelling or looking for eastern states targets).

By having very few races through the year of 78+, there is a massive jump to these 90+ races (races such as Miss Andretti/Cyril Flower/Scenic Blast etc etc which we have seen plenty of over the last 8 weeks or so) and if you win one you're looking at a heap of ratings points. If you want to stick to the ratings races your horse will be carrying well over 60kgs.
A horse can't win a race if they're rated about 85 or so anymore unless they are really good because of this gap.
If we go back over these last 8 weeks or so and look at the lack of volume in these listed races (and the repeat runners), it is very obvious that it is broken. Great if you've got a handy one but it is a lot of prizemoney being offered up to the same animals every week or 2.

Going through the honour roll from the previous twenty years some terrific horse's have won the Bunbury Stakes - Achernar Star last year, Man Booker, Black Heart Bart ( 61kgs. ), Finito won it twice, Changing Lanes he was a handy one, Old Fashion, the mare Belle Bizarre and Universal Ruler as a three year old - just to name a few since the year 2000.

Some absolute rippers before then too.

Absolutely. The Bunbury Stakes and Hannans used to be crackers and very hard to win

Last year Damien Oliver ( winner Achernar Star ) and Damian Lane both rode here on Bunbury Stakes day. Was good to see.

Better field last year - quality and quantity...gee whiz they wouldn't want a scratching or two of the fancied runners.

Should be a cracker the Cup..is it just me, but has 1200 - 1400 metre racing got a fraction weaker overall, numbers wise especially ( look at this field 7 runners max in a Bunbury Stakes goodness gracious ) and remarkably 1600 - 2100 just a fraction better in numbers and quality.

Still a gap to go but the 1600 - 2100 is slightly picking up - and why not - the Railway - Kingston Town - Perth Cup all around the journey.

All won by WA horses too - Winterbottom 1200 won by Eastern stater.

If one mile and beyond is improving ever so slightly - about time too!

    the cup 2000m...will be 1600m soon..... X(

I can't cop Free Trade at 1.55 TABTouch - you'd have to be sick in the head. May waltz in but that's a ridiculous price.

Platoon needs to win this to go East and is $8?

Back out to $1.75 but will drift and start in the black around $2.40ish by the time they jump
Flower of War leads and wins don't look past the obvious

now can anyone tell me what "RIG" stands for next to the sex of a horse
(Dutch Spy) Age: 7, Sex: RIG

    :-?

Yeah I'm team Platoon. Look at it's trials and last prep who it was competing against. It was performing in elite company. It's first up run last time was a cracker, albeit in weaker company, especially it's last 100m.

The latest trial in my opinion was very good. Got warm late after lobbing out the back and clocked up on the corner when asked.

Couldn't have the toppie on its first up run at 4.20.

Flower of War in a purple patch and so consistent, will look the winner at the 200. Platoon and Free Trade will be the ones having the last crack with Dutch Spy boxing on for 4th.

    Platoon
    Free Trade
    Flower of War

Rig as I understand- has its nad/s in tact however they are concealed to give the appearance of a gelding. Acts as a stallion given it will still have the testosterone release.

so basically like a bloke once he's get married.. gives the appearance they're geldings and no longer able to mate yet still have testosterone to release

Rig is the lay term for a cryptorchid. 1 or both testes undescended. Google cryptorchidism for a full explanation.
p.s it costs a lot more to geld a rig because the surgery is a lot more complicated.

Not much interest in Platoon and plenty of $8 available ( but if you like - think Push To Pass 8/1 to 40/1 ).

As far as Free Trade getting out to $2.40 hmmmm...not so sure about that Hash...perhaps around even money at best. Will see though. They are still keeping Tell 'Em Were Commin very safe. First up - on face value - awful. Perhaps the real one today.

Barrier 7 in a 7 horse field for Free Trade, shouldn't be a problem but just adds a little factor.

For first four punters can one of those three rank outsiders sneak third or fourth...Danish Spy probably the most likely.

what price TWC if Pike not on top?
as Chris says, the price of FT is ridiculous when out of 7 starters there are 4 genuine chances.

Early days but Free Trade, Flower Of War and Platoon all a bit soft in the market - at Pinjarra Tellem We're Commin was quite easy, but has been the firmer so far.

Free Trade out to black figures and Danish Spy firmed right in. Good run at Pinjarra but if wins will walk to Uzbekistan.
