what affect does this have on other states are the dogs doomed everywhere or is it a NSW thing

By the look of it, I reckon the premier had about a 3 second look at the report and made a decision. Shutting down greyhound racing? this guy must be a moron. Work with the community you idiot just don't take away everyone's livelihood. What a tool.

I'm absolutely blown away by this. 12 months? Not much thought has gone into that. The person cheering the most will be Clover Moore. She can now sell that prized block of land right on Blackwattle Bay called Wentworth Park without worrying about moving the tenants out.

So if he keeps getting people killed in traffic accidents is he going to shut down the roads???

Stupid analogy RIO, but what they do in that situation is try to better manage the traffic. The same should have been done with the dogs. They should try to better manage the industry.

As much as I am enjoying my dog ownership - easy when they are winning. The only ones who are responsible for this happening is the very people who work in the industry. The majority would have known what was going on probably said nothing...So this seems a fair outcome.

Now to hold our breath and see how long the other states take to do the same?? Followed quickly by the horse racing industry....That thing called the thin edge of the wedge

Have you seen the yes/no vote on SMH article? No way this is being turned around.

You didn't need a report to tell you why the multi thousands of greyhounds went 'missing' instead of living on as pets.

after that four corners report they must have knew there was going to be serious repocussions and looking at the govt report on the ratio of dogs born to dogs put down because they are not racing propositions even worse

yeah but think of it this way. Breeders will still breed dogs to probably the same volume as they have the last few years in the hope they can be sold to race outside NSW. Taking away approx. 5,000 races a year from the schedule will only make it harder for the lesser dogs to earn a crust interstate due to the increased competition, but keep in mind that in the interim you still have the same amount of pups coming through the system. I can only see there being more "wastage" of dogs as even fewer will win prizemoney.

Yep seems to be done and dusted for NSW greyhound industry.  Don't worry Sky, you don't need to replace the 5% of greyhound racing with more racing, you have enough as it is!

“Tabcorp’s media business, Sky Racing, will work with other Australian and international racing industry bodies to source alternative racing product.”

    No loss

    Rough!

I'm sure those that'll be out of a job, may feel otherwise!

However I don't see the result being overturned, when public opinion is so strong against it.

I don't profess to know the ins and outs of this BUT....prohibition NEVER works....name me one product or activity that has disappeared (because a government prohibits it) only for it to re-emerge in a much murkier form on an "underground" basis.....
Secondly, this report was to the NSW Parliament, for the Parliament to consider, not for the Premier to take unilateral action to arbitrarily remove the livelihoods of  many thousands of participants, employees and allied support people attached to the industry.
And thirdly, I understand there is considerable wastage in the Egg Laying industry with under performing hens or birds not suited to laying ........being eaten. So, it would only be right and proper to ban all fried chicken stores and ban the raising of chickens.

Next to no chance Wenty ends up as parkland or an 'alternative sports venue'. Prime real estate 15-20 mins walk from the city :-\"

Perth senior racing figure David Hobbs says WA’s greyhound sport ‘squeaky clean

Really? Unless WA Greyhound authorities have investigated (thoroughly) every trainer and owner in WA then I doubt that very much.

Interestingly the term Squeaky Clean originated with the cleanliness of hair. In this case maybe it is the Hare.

Can guarantee every trainer has been visited on multiple occasions.

Numerous investigations conducted today based on some issues in the NSW report.

I presume there are plenty of locals connected to Sydney operators and the other states for that matter.

It isn't a great look when a certain rogue ES trainer or two beds up his dogs locally for national championships with local trainers. You would like to think their training methods are a world apart. Though not inferring any wrong doing, as an outsider the term guilty by association may spring to mind.

Not sure what you`re implying SG.

1000`s of NSW trainers have never done a thing wrong in their life and are now effected by a knee jerk reaction to a Four Corners report that involved a minority.

Interesting that Vic and Qld can be reformed but NSW can`t.

Fair to say that every greyhound jurisdiction is one live baited piglet away from an instant shutdown and there will be plenty of tree hugging vegans waiting behind every corner with an iphone wanting to catch them out. The powers that be need to send a very clear message to everyone, "you mess up, its over for good".
