    the way i see it, its the renaming and rescheduling of our three big races. 
    They're not all on super saturday any more, theyve spread them out over three weeks.

    Farq so as Tivers says there's nothing new? Its just a branding name for the 3 race/3 week "carnival". If so what a load of wank! Should easily bring 2000 plus people over from the east for 2 weeks with such a brilliant title.

    Yes sorry for the misunderstanding, I just thought everybody knew that nothing about the announcement was new, with the exception of Ch 7 coverage, and a bar that was formerly at Elizabeth Quay coming to Ascot for the three weeks.

    There are no additional funds, no additional races. The Country series is not overly new, as didn't it exist as a Sky Channel Challenge previously ?

    So as for claims of a "World first's event delivering a $3M boost for the 2016 Ascot Racing Carnival" they can only be described as fanciful, as nothing is "new" about this at all other than the abandonment of Super Saturday, which only two years ago was being hailed as the best thing ever.

    The lack of imagination in naming is disappointing. Why not something original? Our 2 main racecourses are already named after 2 iconic racecourses elsewhere in the world. Why compound that problem? Must make it harder to promote the brand to Asia, if they're still serious about that.

    Stringing it out over 3 racedays doesn't worry me personally (I'll be there anyway) but friends from interstate who've been over in recent years are now re-assessing whether to bother this year for that reason alone.

    dedicated interstate racegoers will be "raced out" with the wonderful melb. carnival.

    I would suggest that only owners of visiting horses will attend and probably only on a hit and run basis..ie in on Friday and out Sunday.

    Have to agree here with Jordan, let them try something new and see how it goes ? Some are saying 10% interstate visitors is rubbish but maybe it will work ? You have to try new concepts at times even if PR have got a few things wrong over the years (quite a few). Personally I say give it 2 years and lets see the outcome

    Agree with you 100% psycho...the concept of 3 races over 3 weeks is fine to try, if the current program wasn't getting the results they wanted.......

    It's the delivery, waffle, naming and ambitious statements they make which create the negative and mistrust...but the concept, yep all for them trying to shake it up.

    my issue with it is, its easier to go to one big day than 3 days on consecutive weekends. So I will only go to one of the events if that, my "once a year suit up and go to the races" mates wont go to any. And they only used to rock up out of FOMO (fear of missing out on the once a year racing chicks that would rock up on SS). But this year what are they missing out on? 3 watered down race days with only a third of the eye candy?? Wont be an easy sell.

    At least they are having a crack at trying to lure better horses to beat Bob Peters but he will have Neverland ,Disposition ,Perfect Trflection and probably State Solictotor ,Silverstteam and probably some 3 yolds

    Not a bad wrap IMHO.

    Why wouldn't the bigger stables bring 3 good ones over to have a crack at 600k each over 2 weeks?

    Last I knew it was 13k for a box to fly over and you fit 3 in a box. Most trainers would have some sort of reciprocal arrangement with one of the locals so finding a barn should not be an issue.

    180k in the bank for a trainer isn't bad coin for 2 weeks work in anybody's lingo $-)

    Just to give Perth Racing's "World's first " some perspective, here is just the Group 1's on offer at Royal Ascot week every year. This actually does get tourists on course, pricing is through the roof, standards and rules that you can't jump over, and anyone wishing to be photographed in some B grade celebrity magazine with the main squeeze. So whilst there may be some truth in the claim of three consecutive Saturday's of Gr 1 racing, big deal really. What appears below constitutes a carnival that actually can  do what Perth Racing claim they will do.

    Tuesday - 3 Group 1's The King's Stand, The Queen Anne, The St James Palace

    Wednesday - 1 Gr 1 The Prince of Wales

    Thursday - 1 Gr 1 The Gold Cup

    Friday - 2 Gr 1's The Commonwealth Cup, The Coronation Stakes

    Saturday - 1 Gr 1 The Diamond Jubilee Stakes

    On th4e other hand Diva the biggest wagering races are on group 1 racing in Japan and they never have more than 1 on any given day.

    Well if I was an entire and I won the  Kings Stand for arguments sake, the stakes on the day are meaningless as my stud value would be north of $10M. Win the Railway or worse yet, the Kingston Town, here and your value didn't move at all.

    1AUD = 0.592468GBP

    so lets say 592kGBP = a $1mill AUD race


    As well as record prize money and an overall £1 million increase over
    the week, for the first time, every day at Royal Ascot will offer prize
    money of at least £1 million and none of the 30 races will be run for
    less than £80,000 (£60,000 in 2015).

    Headline increases include:

    Prince of Wales’s Stakes - £750,000 from £525,000.

    Queen Anne Stakes - £600,000 from £375,000.

    Diamond Jubilee Stakes - £600,000 from £525,000.

    The remaining five Group One races all increase by £25,000 to £400,000.

    The Group Two King Edward VII Stakes and Ribblesdale Stakes increase to £200,000 (from £185,000 and £160,000) respectively.

    The Group Two Duke of Cambridge Stakes increases by £40,000 to £175,000.

    The Group Two (no penalties) Hardwicke Stakes increases by £25,000 to £225,000.

    The Group Two Coventry Stakes increases by £30,000 to £150,000.

    Not sure 3 individual $1m races over 3 weeks will make much difference to anything.

    Increasing average starters from under 10 to the 12 to 14 range (week in week out) would.

    Seemingly beyond those who steer the ship.

    from what I gather the main reason is the barrier perception most have here.

    I hear all the time and there are plenty of comments on here along the lines of " arrgghh - no point in starting if you draw wider than 8 or 9" etc etc

    They tried something ( bringing us line with the rest of the country) and so far - early days yet - it does not seem to have made a difference.

    :-? you would think that the top 4 trainers not worrying about draws too much and starting from whichever marble they pull would wake a few up - apparently not :-??

    Don`t think it has anything to do with trainers.

    Regurgitating the same race programs year in year out and handicapping is the issue.

    Posted in another thread that horse numbers have increased on 5 years ago but City starters has decreased by 8%.

    A bonus of $200-$500 k for a trainer who can train the winner of all 3 G1's??? Could be an idea for next year maybe. If i was Waller i would bring over a whole plane load for that! Im sure someone would sponsor that. Would be a huge build up if a trainer was to land the first 2.

    Disagree with programming being an issue.

    The better trainers set their "A" graders for the summer and winter riches and have their second stringers ready to go now and just after xmas *-:)   and reap the rewards because it seems nobody else bothers to go around then and fields are small.
    Programme is out 12 months in advance, plenty of time to make a realistic assessment of the horses in your yard and set them accordingly.
    Unfortunately this mentality usually leads to small fields and non-competitive racing which I would assume affects turnover.

    Handicapping in this state has me baffled and I gave up on it years ago. Could cop a bit of mish-mash when RBA was 1st introduced but it seems they are clasping at straws even still. Once again the better trainers seem to know how to extract the best outcome for their horses from the system.

    $50k bonus for any jock that wins all 3
    $100k bonus for any trainer who wins all 3
    AND
    $200k bonus for any owners of a horse that wins all 3...And the title of GRAND Master.

    If your going to put up $3mil, what is another $350k!!

    The WA racing population is basically fixed, no state hoppers like on the East coast.

    When you see race number deficiencies that appear every year at the same time you need to make changes.
