One of the worst calling performances I've heard in a long time yesterday. Next Saturday you are showcasing the best of Perth racing lets hope he has a better day.

agree...missed horses, got several crossed over...abysmal, its nearly better watching with mute on, so you don't get distracted by him

there was a 12 yr old kid who called the bush races in Vic when I was over there maybe he could apply for the job

Apparently he did a ripper job

I saw bill Collins racing binos an head phones in the sports museum at the gee what a thrill it was remembering his great calls quite the buzz

Here they come Rio..... He's lost any confidence he had and stays out of every close finish because he's so inaccurate. Calling the placings is pathetic rarely gets it right doesn't know what's finished 4th because he's to busy concentrating on the winner and getting the names of the horses right.

Make no mistake he would been sacked from metro meetings a long time ago over in the east.

Lovely bloke ... Who gives a sh!t ! Get it right from 1st to 4th and your doing the job your paid to do.

I don't have Foxtel, so I just listen in on the old wireless radio. Around 15 mins later, RWWA have posted the photo finishes online, and yesterday i was genuinely surprised to see some of the margins that I thought were close.

I was wondering how long it would be before someone brought this up. %-(

i also held off commenting yesterday TRK, cos its all been said before, but yesterday was as bad as he's been. you just have to wonder how long RWWA will continue to allow this to happen.

He sits there fumbling to work out who has got third or fourth and the replay on SKY is showing the placegetters clearly. He either doesn't have SKY monitors in the box or doesn't use them. Add this to the ramblinngs that we hear regularly when SKY cross to him and he has gone beyond being an embarrassment.

    bill Collins binos...great.
I am giving my dads binos to Darren...he'll call this years Raconteur stakes with them...dad called all racs races here in perth.
I am only giving them to him as I never use them and they will be going to a good home. I told macca he can give them to an inspiring young caller if he cares to.
in the case is dads sketch of the control panel ....that's from 1948.

Hilton Donaldson is replacing dmac at the end of the ascot season. Let's hope he finishes in style.

@rio I was actually counting the seconds before he would sight Ysmael's winning run. He managed to catch him just before the line. But otherwise I don't have any hate for Darren, He's not perfect, but who is?

that was the one that really got me TRK...i was on it, hardly called all race and i'm sure he was over the line before being mentioned winning by 2l....

i'm sure its not easy. but a lot of others seem to do it a lot better

What made that Toowoomba call even funnier was the later explanation by 4TAB (I think) that the problem was that the PA was playing up.

Spot on Rio , is a very avg caller at best and thats being kind maybe stick to auctions or Dubai world cups ect ect or pumping up Amelia Park but leave race calling alone

Poor Dmac God he cops a slagging it has to be s very tough gig he's not that bad lol you get what you pay for in reality lets get mark sheen an pay him what he's worth lol

Maybe a month in the box with Greg miles would help him

He's actualky belted out some great calls to but yeah get the place getters very important for novelty players

Seems to me he concentrates on what he backs a lot of the time could be wrong

Pays to know your colours here as he is very inaccurate in a tight go on the minors

I couldn't do it so no expert but feel he does a ok job

Very unfair to have a laugh at the Toowoomba caller,O'Shea I think it was.I forget exactly what happened, but he may have suffered a minor stroke or there was some other illness.I forget exactly. He's back calling now and all is good, but don't make fun at someone's illness.Hilton Donaldson has an illness.Don't forget we've all got some illness lurking and you never know when you might get sick or leave this world.Racecalling is the hardest thing I've ever done,I love it,but it's hard work and I never poke fun at a race caller, because I know how hard it is,I always say if you can do better, your welcome to borrow my 12x50's and do a better job.

Well said mate laughing at illness is not on i reckon it would be a crazy tough job on your ticker

Very confusing to but I learnt in perth to know your colours of the horses an ignore the commentary

Very good reason why loyld williams sits in his man cave watching races with no sound on he knows his an his opponents colours

Try a few races with out sound on sky they show who's in the van knowing colours of who you back is easier than getting worked up over a race call

Didn't dan milecki have a turn at the mic calling a race once ?

Nice in the 12 x 50 I used to have Russian army field glasses they were ace till they got knocked off out of my car a few years back brilliant vision but heavy

macca calls an average of 4 meetings a week...I don't think the eastern states callers do that many.
to add to his woes peters and parnham could have up to 3 runners in a race with just different caps to separate them.
most of peters have a good chance which makes it worse....

sadly this thread makes an appearance a few times a year....give the guy a break, as nestor says.
