There has been lately the discussion of the state of our jockey ranks, really to think about it very thin,of course I think Pikey is out on his own, yeak ok he gets the cream of the rides from Bob Peters, but satill has to get out there and get the job done,ok the Pontiff is still one of the best, when on song, these days the riding fee just pocket money, but still pulls out some gem of rides,Jarrod Noske I rate up there,Donga,Peter Hall yet again getting the cream of Durrant Stable while Pikey is out,and maybe 1 or 2apprentices coming through the ranks, but id like too hear thoughts,

Alan Kennedy & Paterson both should be dominating to be honest. 2 of the best jockeys in the state but for one reason or another nowhere to be seen.

    Shelby Bowtell most improved

Sorry mate Patterson is done will be lucky to be a bush rider Adam Durrant  doesnt use him at all anymore and Al  Kennedy seems to be going ok no super star

Pure riding ability they are right up there IMO. Watching Turner , whiting , carbery etc week in week out whilst those 2 are riding the pine so to speak makes my stomach turn.

I understand about the working hard at track work etc etc but everybody is there for a common goals surely and that's to make money and win races.

Imho I think in his best mind set and 100'/, dedicated I rate B Kennedy snapping @ PH &WP heels I would imagine Pattoson not working hard enough @ Durrant to get rides he seems to b very loyal to those who put in hard yards I think jo Asssopardi dose a good job and will take it to senior ranks and clint port Johnson only needs to keep his head fitting current helmet with Durrant support to become a top apprentice!

if I had a choice and Pikey was already committed to another ride I would be on the phone to Jarrad Noske.

if he was committed elsewhere I would scratch and wait another day.

Been watching Jerry Noske of late - seems to be improving all the time. Doesn't seem to lack anything in a tight go either.

Knuckey my pick of the seniors

I wasn't going to comment as I find it hard to be positive about too many of our riders.

But over the first half of the year

Harvey, Casey, Pike, Warwick(still needs to toughen up a bit), Jarrad Noske, and wait for it..Jagsy/Trembles/Old Man Turner..

I think a better question is how many "outside WA" GP1 jockeys are riding at the moment.

And poor old Hally doesnt get a mention.

    who's "trembles"?

Mr Turner (show him respect), Jagsy (to his mates) Trembles (rio special for the way he rides through gaps at times)

    3 names, one person

    :D

    Hally!! That's a bit rough isn't it!!!

If that is the measure then G Smith should be on the list as well.

Azzopardi is a very underrated hoop. Sure he rides some good chances, but has a great sense of timing and lovely balance. I reckon he will kick on as a senior.

It might have been misunderstood, I was just saying that nobody had mentioned him. Hes going the best out of them all at the moment in my opinion, I back him with confidence if he is on one im keen on.

I don't rate Azzopardi all that much. I have seen him get far too arrogant of late on favs and has gotten most of them beaten. I am a big fan of L Warwick and her read and then breakdown post race. Pontiff really doesn't give you much either way, W.Pike whilst being fantastic putting him on can end up costing you down the line. If you have a good horse that makes it to summer riches you can almost be guaranteed you will lose his services to Mr Peters.
Hally has been riding in some fine form or late and gotta say S.Bowtell has a lot of potential, she showed the boys how it's done last wed arriving for 1 ride in rc8 and giving them an absolute lesson.
