Ryan Harris ruled out of the series due to knee injury, has retired from all forms of cricket. Pat Cummins named as his replacement.

The Cummins selection is a complete joke. I'm actually a Cummins fan and think his true worth will be in Red ball cricket over the shorter formats but I just can't understand what they have picked him off. He hasn't played a 4 day game for something like 2 years and to be honest his form in the World Cup wasn't anything to write home about so I just can't see the reasoning for it.

The only thing I would say is he's probably no chance of playing unless we get 2 injuries so maybe they have just brought him in to keep him around the set-up. But in my opinion it would have been better to reward a guy like Andrew Fekete for a great shield season. You need to show the guys in the Sheild that if they perform they will be rewarded. The Cummins selection seems a bit like the NSW bias is still very alive and well.

One thing is for sure though, the happiest bloke with Harris pulling out will be Ali Cook. Harris didn't have a great Ashes in Australia 2 summers ago but he absolutely had it over Cook and that in itself was a huge part in the end result. Cook is very much a barometer for England and I wouldn't be surprised if he has a big series this time around now. England at $4.15 for the 1st Test is a great bet. I'm sure that even if they don't win they will be in the box seat at some point in the match allowing you to lay off for a good result whichever way it pans out.

Don't know what was going on in the State of Origin while The Ashes was on, but QLD ended up winning easily 52-6.

Think the Poms will win at least one test and at least one draw also. 2-1 or 3-1 to Aus for me. Hopefully by the end of the series we will have seen the last of Brad Haddin and Shane Watson at Test level, that would top it off!

    Haddin currently -77 and counting.................

I think a couple of left arm quicks need to take the SBS approach..

    Stop Bowling ****!

I think I said it earlier when we were talking about the make up of the side so this isn't just a reaction to last night. But Starc and Johnson don't fit into the same side, you can't have two guys that bowl so many pump balls in test cricket. Sure they both have the ability to take quick wickets which is great but what happens when they don't? We go at 4+ an over.
Harris going down maybe forced their hand to play both lefties but think Johnson should make way for Siddle ( obviously would love Harris) at Lords.

The best part of an away Ashes series is the BBC commentary and now I'm listening to Ian Healy, Mark Taylor, Mark Nicholas and promos for some new cooking show. Absolute joke

A test record for Rogers, first batsmen to be pass 50, but not make a century, in seven consecutive test innings.

It's pretty quiet in the PTT Aussie camp

    Sure is

I backed England +1.5 test head start, ludicrous stuff, and if they get up here you can basically pay me out

We are very ordinary outfit, on our day we can look world class but we're not too many levels up on England - especially over there

Shades of 2009 - pigeon out treading on a ball

Watson isnt the bowler he was...13 overs for the game, has to be his last unless he makes a very good score.

Yeah, I remember that. Was in the warm-up before the 2nd test in '05. We then had to rely on Kasporwicz, Gillespie and Shaun Tait, who promptly conceded about 140 in the first session at about a-run-a-ball. All the momentum after winning the first test was gone and the rest they say is history.

    How pathetic is this performance?

Very disappointing by the Aussies. Overate themselves a bit. Batting has been flaky for awhile. Smiths magic summer made the top order look better than it was. Clarke as a captain has been smacked my cook , changes bowlers to often, not much imagination in his field placings, looked better with smith in charge last summer. Starc and Johnson don't fit into the same test side both go for runs and can't bowl line and length. Watson doesn't look to interested these days , Haddin's best is behind him, if Warner or smith don't make runs the Aussie more often than not get rolled cheaply have relied on the tail to get them out of trouble far to often. Out bowled, batted and fielded all test. Could be a long series for the Aussies.

Watson what a phuken dead head how does he keep his spot his time as a cricketer is done
  • sempssemps    117 posts
Mitch marsh has to come in batting is much more potent than Watson. Watson bowling has become very pedestrian.
Starc probably won't get up because of ankle injury and short turn around between tests so probably be Siddle to come in which is ok because can bowl line and length and is a workhorse who doesn't give in.

    Brad Haddin should have retired.

The dropped ROOT chance was a shocker.

The caught behinds off Lyon went straight into his gloves, but the way Taylor, a New South Welshman who always sticks up for Haddin, and Healy who loves Haddin and from whom Haddin took over, make his every catch sound like it's the greatest catch ever taken.
I will be very surprised if he emulates his batting feats of last year.

    Far different conditions in England.

Watson will definitely go for Marsh no doubt. Sadly think that'll be the only change unless Starc is unavailable so Haddin and Johnson will keep their spots and we'll lose again I'd say. We definitely will be more suited at Lords and I think it will really suit Hazelwood if he can use the slope like McGrath used to but our batting just looks fragile compared to the poms who have genuine batsman down to 8. We have Haddin at 7 who's been a walking wicket for the last 18 months. Poms outsiders again so still value with them but Hazelwood for most wickets in our first innings the main bet for me, especially now when Starc is right in the market.

Haddin withdraws from the second Test at Lord's, Peter Nevill to make his Test debut.
