The thread started with why is PTT so quiet and ended with a string of comments about what is wrong with WA racing. So there is the answer: pessimism.

My first reaction to the question was that if you guys/girls were interested in, maybe even excited by the product, there would be plenty of discussion, disagreement, banter and of course, tips.

I can certainly understand the apathy; the product is a bore. That is why I contributed heavily (which I rarely do) to a recent thread. The sport in this state seems almost dead in the water to me.

I guess if Sydney or Melbourne racing was to be in trouble then something radical may be attempted to save it but meanwhile Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane may already be gone.

Interesting that we have TabCorp pretty much running the show; with their wall-to-wall poker machine type racing but if the sport died they will survive. I think it's about time racing started to think seriously about its future and consider the possibility that it potentially doesn't have one.

At the risk of repeating my previous repeats: bigger fields, bigger fields and bigger fields.

Personally once the Footy starts the racing takes a massive backseat, most of my mates consume/use/bet on racing in the spring/summer months to fill the gambling void (because we are all deep down degenerates and Australia has no mainstream sport to bet on consistently in summer).

What chance do we have of earning a buck betting on slow tracks in winter when we aren't "in the know"?
    None.

Betting sport is far more social with friends, you don't feel rorted when you lose, and easier to get a collect (not necessarily win).

I have slowly halted my punting to where I punt very little - save for a few bets on the stable and group racing. saving up for a new car does that. overall things are tight and racing isn't giving bang for buck - australia wide. so it's not getting the dollars. too much racing is killing it - it has become mundane.  along with people being far busier and a tight economy with rising costs racing is going to take a hit.

Once upon a time I had a feel for racing in Vic, NSW, Qld (Saturdays) and here (never had any interest in SA), but as time goes on far too much racing to keep a handle on and backed off would not have a clue about majority of ES races, and now limit to WA, but as someone said nothing against Bob Peters, but his strike rate has stifled my punting to a degree.

Regards to this site, yes it seems be treading water, and race day threads especially on Provincial racing near on non existent when previously pages of comments. Not sure how you turn that around as the product needs to be exciting to get people involved to talk about
