wasn't the boomerang known as "the spear throwers arms", or was that the one in Innaloo?

Umm, think that was the Nookenburra... it had an Aboriginal Statue or symbol out the front. The Boomerang was operated by mine host Dolph Clowes who used to referee the fights. Very modern in its day...had a drive thru bottleshop when few did. Also had bands in the lounge who were instructed to keep playing when the fights broke out...it kept the mob on the dance floor...or so the theory went. I only knew 2 pubs in those days....the Boomer, and the Coronation Hotel in Queens Park run by Reg Marsden...a very big trotting pub and an even bigger SP shop.

One for stupidity here...Mid1990s... Had a shocker of a day at the tab ( nothing unusual ) came down to the final race in Victoria think it was a Thursday , literally last 50 cents...couldn't take a trick all day..so with the last roll of the dice put a 50c trifecta on...straight down the line...can't recall the numbers but let's say 3,8,10 in order...hand over the coin. Just as was about to bunker down to watch the lucky last remembered had to make a fairly urgent phone call that had completely forgotten about...I needed the coin back to ring from the phone box. But to do so needed to cancel the ticket...this is a day where everything I touched turned to dust .. as if I was going to pick 3 horses in the correct order...It was a no brainer..asked Andrew ( Tab Agent ) to cancel...he did. As they say in the classics the rest is history..3 beat the 8 beat the 10. From memory paid about $130 for 50 cents. The Tab worker went nuts at me and rightly so!! Reckon I could go 4700 races in a row not being able to pick a trifecta in order , possibly a lifetime , but there was a day in the 90s I had it and lost it.

That TAB has since gone too. Was right next to the old Hurlingham Hotel which became Rosie O Gradys I think. Was just off Canning Highway about 2 kms past the Como hotel. Some punters may remember it.

Back in uni days (early 90's).
Group of lads from bball team at the casino, standing around a roulette table.
One is boys is broke so asks one of the other guys for $5 to buy a drink.
Flips him a $5 chip which of course being drunk he fumbles and it falls on the table, rolls across and lands on a single number.
Before he can reach to pick it up - the bell rings.
Argues to get his chip back, but no go - hands off the table.
Of course...............that number comes up !
    35/1 or whatever it was.

From memory he kept the winnings :)

Got put off roulette when one night at the casino whilst watching a wheel , nearly every number covered on the table with big bets , some numbers 'sky high' with chips and for some reason one number was left completely alone, that was how I noticed it , all these chips on numbers and this number solitary on its own...of course we know which number the ball landed on...yes a skinner to the casino...then recall muttering ..'funny that'. :-? ;)

Too true. I'd thrown away enough $5 another one wouldn't have hurt.

The year was 1996...sometime around late July August managed to get on a very good roll on the punt. For a period of time had the 'Midas touch' an example of the luck that was on my side...had $300 eachway on a horse at an outer Queensland track think it was either Kilcoy or Esk ...my horse jumped well but when heading across to possibly lead seemed to get cut off rather badly by two horses on its immediate outside. Anyway ran 3rd..$2 a place got my 600 back. Needed to get back to work, lunch break had already been exceeded...but just enough time to wait to collect my 600...then came the news of a double protest...what the ?? Better not be against my horse. Lo and behold it was my horse protesting against 1st and 2nd...the two buggers that had cut me off soon after the jump...hadn't even realised they ran 1st and 2nd.. knew the chance of one protest being upheld a possibility however both protests being upheld next to no chance.
No time to wait...work was waiting...about 5 o'clock as the working day was nearing an end rang the TAB to get the result to confirm what I thought...but instead got the greatest surprise ...my horse was the winner thereby both protests had been upheld! Over 2k to collect during an amazing lucky streak on the punt. Not long after that everything went south...if there was a photo I missed it...if there was a certainty beaten I was on it. Had lost a lot of 'bananas' and there was one chance to get the money back...it was a sports bet...it ended in tears...will relate that story another time.

I got a nice collect on course  many years ago at Harold Park Paceway - it wasnt a mistake of mine - but it was a comical mistake ( funniest thing that ive ever seen on a racetrack ) that got me the collect

    Had a $10 straight trifecta - paid about $120 - so it was about a $1200 collect

Winner won easily - but the horse who ran 3rd - should have run second - never forgot the driver of the 3rd horse Lindsay Jones - hobby trainer had a couple of horses - i think he used to drive the milk cart around Glebe ( and i think thats where he was better suited)

Anyhow with about 40 metres to go its got the2nd horse cold - and would have gone straight past it ( and i would have got nothing ) but Lindsay got a bit excited - hes hitting the horse  with the whip - so if you can imagine hes throwing his right arm forward - but he overbalanced - his feet slipped from the sulky - and his head ended  up down near his ankles  - hed totally overbalanced in a tangled mess - he was desparately trying to untangle himself ( geez it was funny) -  his horse lost all its momentum - and got beaten a head for second and i got my trifecta collect .

Yes, I completed that challenge a couple of years ago and the TAB is still going. Not a bad one all things considered.
