Yes, got the better end of it for once.
In saying that - he drove the super softs MUCH better than VES, so may have ended up same result regardless.
That and VES illegally overtook him in the first place.

Quiz question, 13 drivers have raced for both Ferrari and McLaren in their F1 careers (2 of them are currently racing, Alonso and Raikkonen). Who is the most recent driver to have raced for both Ferrari and McLaren but not win races for both teams?
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Don't know the answer to that off the top of my head, but gives me a great opportunity to mention this time in four weeks I'll be at SIN GP...... Vroom

Nice! Do you know whereabouts around the circuit will you be watching from?

To simplify the question a little bit, he would also have been the last driver before Raikkonen to race for both teams?

Yes, Nigel Mansell. A stellar 2-race stint at McLaren in 1995 to finish off his F1 career. Raced for Ferrari in 1989 & 1990. The last driver aged in his 40s to win a GP ('94 Aus GP, aged 41). Also, the only driver in history to finish in the top 10 in the championship in both F1 & Indycars in the same year (1994, 8th in Indycars and 9th in F1). Just finished reading his autobiography.

There is a likelihood that in at least one, if not in two of the final races, Hamilton will have to start from at least 11th (and more likely from at least 16th) on the grid due to exceeding his allocation of engine components.

In as simple terms as possible, each engine is made up of six components, which each driver is allocated five per season. While Rosberg is currently utilising his third of each of the six components. Hamilton is already using his fifth and final allocation of two of the six components. When he has to utilise his sixth and/or seventh (he will receive a minimum 10-grid spot penalty, 10 for one component & if they change another then 5 for each additional component changed). The likelihood is that the team would change both components at the same time, hence the 15-grid spot penalty.

Hamilton will be taking one of his engine penalties this weekend at Spa.

    1981- Country USA
The opening round was USA West held in Long Beach
The second was Caesar's Palace Grand Prix held in Las Vegas

The winner was none other than Australia's Alan Jones in the Williams Ford and was indeed his last Grand Prix win at Caesar's

95 Adelaide Grand Prix was the last of the season. Melbourne 96 was the first of the season. So 2 races in a row in the same country. Damon Hill won both races

Not in the same season but Damon Hill won the final round in Adelaide in 1995 then the opening round in Melbourne in 96?

Well done @Winsumlosesum and @MinesACorona. Damon Hill was the right answer. Before that, Michael Schumacher did the same feat in the two races before that in 1995, winning the Pacific Grand Prix (Aida, Japan) and the Japanese Grand Prix (Suzuka) in successive weekends.

    Quiz question

    What have Michael Schumacher, Johnny
Herbert, Eddie Irvine and Rubens Barrichello got in common?

  • PAULPAUL    2,665 posts
The only thing I can think of at the moment is that all drove for Eddie Jordan at some point in their careers. Schumacher (Belgium '91), Barrichello (South Africa '93) and Irvine (Japan '93) all debuted in F1 with Jordan. Herbert drove for Jordan in the junior formulae, 1987 British Formula 3 and 1988 Formula 3000.

Close @PAUL but infact all have been team-mates,
Schumacher and Herbert were team-mates in 1995. Schumacher and Irvine were team-mates in 1996-99. Schumacher and Barrichello were team-mates in 2000-02. Herbert and Irvine were team-mates in 2000. Herbert and Barrichello were team-mates in 1999. Irvine and Barrichello were team-mates in 1994-95.

Of course! I forgot that Irvine and Herbert were team-mates at Jaguar in '00, when the team changed from Stewart, even though I knew they both of them finished their careers at Jaguar (Herbert '00, Irvine '02). Herbert was the one I had trouble with, as the other three I could link up easily, i.e. debuted for Jordan in F1, drove for both Ferrari and Jordan. I knew they were all team-mates of Schumi.

Apart from Irvine and Herbert, the other five driver pairings have also appeared on a F1 podium together as team-mates. Schumacher & Herbert, twice for Benetton, '95 Catalunya & Suzuka. Schumacher & Irvine, numerous times for Ferrari. Schumacher & Barrichello, even more times for Ferrari. Irvine & Barrichello, once for Jordan, '95 Montreal. Herbert & Barrichello, once for Stewart, '99 Nurburgring.

Interesting GP with hamilton having to start from back of the grid. Hopefully DR can get a podium.

Paul you've just answered my next question.
    Top knowledge.

Will be an interesting race what strategy will Hamilton have in place? I fancy DR to go very close to the top step providing RB can give a reliable car with no "screw ups"

    Can Ferrari get close?

    Great result for RIC.
    HAM all arse again.

Plus Hamilton now won't need to serve any more grid penalties after Mercedes made multiple engine changes during the course of the weekend, stockpiling fresh components to easily last him for the rest of the season. McLaren has basically done the same for Alonso.

Not many usable parts left on Magnussen's Renault after that crash on the exit of Eau Rouge.

Practically a snoozefest at Monza last night, apart from Ricciardo's pass on Bottas in the closing laps.

Rosberg's 21st career win (moves him up to 14th on the all-time list, one win behind Damon Hill and one win ahead of Mika Hakkinen and Raikkonen). His 7th win of the season, the only driver to win 7+ races in a season and not win the title was Alain Prost (1988).

Ricciardo wins in Malaysia. Fantastic! How crucial in the end was it that he held off Verstappen before the last Virtual Safety Car, ultimately won him the race.

Another win to Rosberg in Suzuka. With a 31 point lead, he now has the luxury of being able to finish 2nd to Hamilton in the last 4 races and still winning the title.
