SJS warms up a chilly day at sunny Burwood Park. Hiding from a very lazy breeze.

Lovers Prayer, that was sick bag material again! I get trying to go forward at the start, trying to get in front of Brilliant Sunshine was absolutely the right thing to do but once he made the move surely you grab hold straight away. Then she needed to get going before everyone else came out.

Horse is flying, I dont think I can go again though.
  • JayJayJayJay    8,624 posts
Agree but was hard to go past Brilliant Sunshine...he is also flying, and having bought shares in him in the past, his last 6 or 7 runs have been very strong....and profitable....and he races in Bart's colours ....and the sun is shining, just not quite brilliant.

Who is backing Mighty Major???? If anyone knows let me know as I feel they may be in the market for items such as a left hand screwdriver set!

Limestone Bay was well supported late and ran well, will follow him.

Mighty Major has been unplaced at his previous seven runs. Went to the barrier at $2.80 favourite..seriously. Any horse that draws a gate and looks like leading you take about 4 or 5 points under its rightful price. That's now eight unplaced efforts in a row for the Major.

That favourite paid remarkably well a place $2.10 on tote from the one. Was $1.95 fixed SP to win.

In R 5, they 27.8 third quarter undid a few......nothing has come close to breaking 28 in any race today, in fact they rarely do on this surface.....sitting out 3 wide with or without a trail is hard yakka when they are going that quick....not the Artists caper.

Galactic Star about $1.50 will know whether that's a good price or not three metres after the tapes go back.

Incredible first four dividend on last race...winner long odds on...finished up the four favourites on fixed odds betting...trifecta $34 and the first four with The Black Lord finishing fourth who was one of the better place chances paid just under $300. In order it was favourite ( $1.16 SP ) third favourite ( Lewis ) 2nd favourite Sovereign Faith logical danger and 4th favourite The Black Lord. Stunning dividend.

Just got around to watching the replays - had a bit of luck with Prince of Whitby - and Mr Nickel

Mr Nickel - that was hard work collecting - because of the  race call - didnt know where the bloody horses were - Matty Young  from the 400 was all at sea - actually he was like he  was out in the Sea - with 8 metre swells in a rubber dinghy

Brad Hallows ( normal caller - and a very accomplished caller ) sitting in the grandstand must have been shaking his head

Franco J - why not 3 the pegs - Eggerton Green ? - and your drive on Black Apache Shadow - from the 600 metres - should have run 3rd easily - 2 trifectas there for the taking

Just listened to the replay and am interested in knowing what I did exactly wrong.
Do you not like change? Or are you another person happy to see a young bloke not get an opportunity to try and improve his craft?

Feel free to give Wes Cameron a call with your comments or if you wish to jot them here I'll be sure to take them on board and try and improve to your standards as I'm very open to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

Don't be afraid to put your name to your post next time,

    Kind Regards
    Matt "All at sea" Young

Maybe i was a bit over the top with my criticism

But i am  big Brad Hallows fan -  who makes race calling so so easy - and i was a bit dissappointed he wasnt calling them at Northam - like he normally does

However if you want some constructive criticism - i think in your calls you should tone it down a little bit - to me and this is only my opinion - your like Dwayne Russel calling the footy - its just a bit over the top.

    Thats my only criticism

    Hey Matt,

Will you be sharing the duties with Gareth Hall at GP?

    Regards cisco
  • GilgameshGilgamesh    5,009 posts
Hey Mat the call was good mate, there was a line of 4 on the bend, Idolize Me trying to get the gap as you mentioned and then another wall behind that, i'm not sure how you are ment to tone it down a bit in a finish like that. For me you got all that info out as clearly as you could.

Seems you have moulded yourself a bit in Hunty which I like, my suggestion would be try and keep as many harness terms in your calls as possible, if people don't understand what you are saying they can find out!

Any critisism I have I'll dish out.

Thought Ritchie was better friday night after being a bit flat of late.

At the end of the day, you can't keep everyone happy. I am very hard on myself and am always open to constructive criticism to try and improve. Didn't think the call was that bad. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Gilga, I grew up listening to Hunty and am a big fan. I like to express my passion in my calls...I love WA racing and I love calling good horses.

Cisco, I'll be sharing the duties during the Inter Dominion and the big nights with G Hall, he':s captain of the Sky ship as of now

Jenkins, Shenton, Grljuisich, McCauley, Simmonds, Hunt, Cameron, McDermott, Bell and Young are a major factor in why listening and going to the trots was and is so enjoyable.

Still against the media and cameras being on the track immediately before the start though! That's the time for driver and horse concentration. However that's just old skool me not getting with the times haha.

Don't lose the passion matty, passion is the one thing most trotting fans want to hear from a caller. There are not many of you're type still calling these days. History shows that the best race callers are the ones that actually love the sport.

Some great names there riders. I remember as a teenager I would harras my old man all week to take me to the races on the Saturday just because I wanted to hear Max Simmonds call. In those days you could only hear him if you were on course. RIP great man......
