Race 1 - The Flying Russian
We kick day two of The Masters off, with a race which does look devoid of many winning hopes. See Me Sizzle and Touch Of Silver are the standouts in the market and on recent form, rightly so.
See Me Sizzle does not have the services of William Pike again but instead Maddison Brown hops on board. Despite the 3kg claim, this is obviously a big negative, though the fact she is on a horse who likes to lead, from barrier one, it is offset to some degree. She will be looking to kick up and lead here while I Done It, Ruling Angel and Woodsville will all have a similar idea. I don't think he can win this race if not holding the front.
Touch Of Silver is a long way down in class here, though his last effort was nothing short of disappointing. Despite the big class drop, I do worry that this son of Saxon may have trained off just a little. Will be snagged to last and saved for one sprint. Still the one to beat.
I'm going to chuck $20 pop, Dusha Zachitski on top here with Lee Newman back in the saddle. Despite it being a far inferior grade, his win two starts back was full of merit when circling the field from last. Kate Witten went on at his most recent outing and he was simply never in the race. Will appreciate no extra weight (Lee Newmans riding weight is the allotted 54kg's as all Gatting supporters would know) and is over the odds in my book.
After the top two there is really minimal depth.

Race 2 - Peters Quinella
This does look a real race in two with the Bob Peters trained pair of Royal Star and La Mouline really dominating the market. I will follow our favourite Wizard, Mr Pike and opt for Railway emergency, Royal Star on top.
This daughter of Redoute's Choice certainly has a fair few tricks up her sleeve as we saw with her late scratching 7 days ago (not the first time in her career) and I would certainly not be considering the $1.75 on offer. La Mouline has been faultless this preparation, appearing to get better with each run. It would be no surprise at all to see her knock off the more fancied stable mate. It looks a pretty obvious quinella.
Proceedwithcaution is the 'watch' runner and at $20, is the only horse which represents any type of value in the early markets. Both recent trials were very good.

Race 3 - Bold And The Beautiful
Another race where the cerise and white will be prominent, with Bold Success finally looking to have conditions to suit. Was a superb run at his most recent effort when (to quote D-Mac), he wouldn't have seen the leaders with a periscope, before rattling home over the final 200m. It is disappointing he didn't get a run in the Regional Championship Final as it would have been great to see a battling
owner like Bob Peters have a runner in that event.
Ragazzo D'Oro is on the second line of betting and along with King Of Wu, does look the main dangers. Both should race more prominently than Bold Success and will need need a strong kick to hold out the son of Echoes In Heaven. Lorentinio was not suited at the 1100m last start and will appreciate Tayla Stone hopping back on board over the 1400m. Unfortunately there looks to be speed galore in this race which won't suit him.
Bold Success looks your winner, but like Royal Star at $1.75 is under the odds.

Race 4 - Cry Me A River
The River was a late withdrawal from the Winterbottom after drawing barrier 13 and in all fairness should never have even been allowed in the field. I've seen a few people saying that with a good draw it was a 'cheeky hope'. It would have had to channel Steven Bradbury to have been even a remote chance.
I still don't think he is a certainty here (where he doesn't even carry top weight in a 72+), but does come up against a pretty moderate lot.
Tenterden, I Am Incredible, Universal Moon and Gee Boss should ensure this race is run at a solid tempo which should play into The Rivers hands. After my little Steven Bradbury comment and me being a stubborn prick, I find it hard to tip it on top at the $1.95. So I am going to opt for a horse with a first up record which reads poorly on paper (probably because it is poor) in Woolibar. Some of his efforts last campaign around the ever improving It's It, would be more than good enough to win this. As a rule, I tend to avoid the sit and sprint horses with apprentices on board, though from barrier one with the inform Tayla Stone on top, he could get the right run.

Race 5 - Out Of The Forrest
Finally willing to give up my Switzerland citizenship and tip something with a degree of confidence here. Emerald Rose has been huge at her two career runs. First up she found trouble for the majority of the straight when she was clearly the run of the race, before she sat deep and fought jockey Renee Forrest the entirety. She kept coming on the line to run second. She finally draws a barrier here (2) and Joey Azzopardi replaces Renee Forrest. The importance of this jockey change cannot be emphasised enough. Should position up closer to the speed and while it is difficult to have complete confidence in young horses at their third and fourth runs into a campaign, she should be going very very close here. The $8 on offer looks the best price of the day.
Nemiroff was a brilliant trialler and gets the services of Damien Oliver. Not many horses step out in a $100,000 race and win at their first start, but this son of Universal Ruler does appear to have a lot of talent.
She's Got Merit is a blow out hope at around the $61 mark after not having much luck on debut. Dean Yendall goes on.

Race 6 - One For The Battlers
The Regional Championship is one of my favourite initiatives from Perth Racing, but the race itself is an absolutely nightmare for analysing the form lines.
Speed in this race looks hectic with River Dance, Mantime, Captivated Point, Our Buddy Boy, You Watching Me and President Grover, all being horses who like to get out in front and roll along. I suspect River Dance will burn them off and be able to cross, but with the 60.5kgs he'd want to do it easily.
The race does look set up for a sit and sprinter and the best one in this race looks to be Finance. The $4.60 on offer does not excite me in the slightest in this type of race, but we'll put the Bunbury Banker on top. After that, I really don't know. Let's just hope the winner is a genuine 'battler'!

Race 7 - Perth's Prize
Not the most exciting edition of the Winterbottom Stakes, but there definitely is some intrigue to the race. I am very confident the trophy will remain in Western Australia, with Rock Magic and State Solicitor looking the standout selections. The lack of pace in this race should play into their hands with both likely to race in the first half of the field, while the main dangers from the East (Viddora and Santa Ana Lane) will be well back from their sticky gates.
State Solicitor looks to have come back a bigger and better horse from last years Winterbottom when his run was on a very similar level, if not a touch better to Rock Magic's effort. From barrier 4 in a race devoid of speed, Pike should have him sitting just off the pace with cover. Rock Magic has had a gallant Eastern States campaign with the Winterbottom, concerningly, not his primary objective. I never like this with such a big race, but there is no doubt if any horse can overcome the dreaded 'afterthought' tag, it is Rock Magic. I just think State Solicitor will get a softer run in transit and the fact such a smart yard has targeted him for this race only suggests he should be at 100%.
Dream Lifter will run a big race, while Caipirinha is a blowout hope if crossing and finding the fence. At her best she can really scoot along.

Race 8 - Entree, Main & Dessert
The last time we tipped Entrechat in this preview she was a comfortable $8 winner when defeating Master Magician. A horse, we feel we have a good read on, we think it is time to load up and ride the Fiona Bell train all the way to the bank again. She is $8 here. It's meant to be.
Her most recent effort was behind Trap For Fools, who needs no introduction as being a solid form line. There is no Trap For Fools here and really this is a glorified midweek staying event at best. As long as she hasn't trained off and Fiona Bell (who regular readers will know this Street Cry mare absolutely flies for) can find some cover, I expect her to be too strong for this field late.
Couleur Bizarre was not suited dropping back to the 1800m at his most recent outing and will relish the step back up to 2100m. He looks the main danger. Reveille is the 'watch' horse in regards to how she runs out the staying trip. Being by High Chaparral, there shouldn't be too many issues.

Proceedwithcaution/la mouline/Luke’s Gold can all knock off the fav. Royal star carrying a career high weight, in the heat as a mare - who gets herself fired up before every race I’m banking on the fact she runs her race behind the barriers. At her best she destroys this field, but enough negatives to take her on.
Lorentinio big value, even with the speed. Ragazzo d’oro And king of wu big chances. Bold success to do the classic ‘be on me next start’ suck run

Rock magic is always honest, viddora is the form horse of the race, and my roughie whispering Brooke, with a big weight turn around on the WA horses, blinkers on and it will lead.
Agree with entrechat in the last. Should have finished a lot closer last start, Fiona Bell knows how to ride it and I just hope she comes down the middle of the track with one big sustained run off the corner. Pretty keen each way. Was also on it big last time it won at this value!
