Only thing I'd be developing is the carpark.
set to make a fortune based on all the whinging about no parking at the new Stadium across the road.

Biggest problem Tivers Is that I don't think the race club owns it. I am confident it was part of the sale of land. The only thing PR can develop is the ground the grandstand is on from the river side of the grandstand up to the show ring in the stables....

My understanding is all the rest belongs to Golden Shower and who knows what they are going to do with it or when!?!?!

Chris Nation - no idea, but Skye has been riding all over the place including in the city, so I cant see him being here for a long time.

I was told that Chris and Skye are no longer together. Might not be gospel- just posting what I was told

A quick check and that sounds plausible.....Cant RWWA or PR quickly organise an attractive distraction to entice him to stay here if its true??? hahaha

Rio as part of the proposed development approval I'm pretty sure that the infield at Belmont was meant to house all the parking accessed via a small underground tunnel. If it was my decision i would stay at Ascot for the winter while the tunnel and carpark is developed that way the car park can generate you some income while you reassess the grandstand design.

A tunnel ? FFS sake the next thing they will claim to be building surely will be the replacement space shuttle for NASA

Was driving past Belmont the other day and thinking what a waste of space the infield of the track is.
The only ones benefitting from this 100,000m2 of flat vacant land was the seagulls, field mice and grasshoppers.

Really good point Bucks...And yes that is my recollection too....The good part about that was the original tunnel was going to go under the current grandstand.

Kill two birds with the one stone. Demolish the grandstand, build the tunnel, erect a double story tent on top of it and start making money from the parking to help fund a more permanent grandstand......

    Yep it works for me...

It wouldn't be too complicated Damien. The tunnel just has to allow cars to get under the main straight. Would think you could over excavate while the track isn't in use, build the walls and roof then backfill within 3-4 months. The only thing you would have to contend with would be dewatering that section as it sits at or below the water table. You could however just pump that water into the existing lake that already exists in the infield. You wouldn't even need to touch the existing grandstand if you didn't want to.

Bucks would they not have to get rid of the lake in the infield if they were going to construct a parking lot there . I know its a fairly big area but with the vehicles and equipment needed to build a carpark it would surely take up a fair amount of space
  • BucksBucks    158 posts
If it was me i would leave the lake as it only takes up about a third of that area. The current carpark looks like it would fit more than 3 times inside the track.

The lake is handy to have as the Swan River Trust won't let you discharge any water into the river. So if you needed to dewater (whether it be for the tunnel or grandstand) you could direct any water from the construction site into the lake instead. The lake would then naturally filter the water before it returns to the river or evaporates.

    Sound familiar ?

But based on the aforementioned television numbers, people are still tuning in. Nobody is boycotting one-day cricket, despite stadiums being emptier than they ever have been. Instead, they are watching on their newsfeeds and listening online. Luckily for CA, the vast proportion of its annual income comes from broadcast rights and not gate receipts.

This is the 21st century and these are 21st century trends.

So crown is going to cash in on parking at the stadium but belmont can't be used?

Perth Racing managing director Professor John Yovich said it was keen to offer parking at Belmont Racecourse for stadium events, but that was unlikely in the short term.

“(We) would love to open up general public parking at Belmont Racecourse for the new Optus Stadium events,” he said. “However, we face a few challenges that (include) limitations with the current Town of Victoria Park parking by-laws.”

  • DamienWyerDamienWyer    7,988 posts
Perth Racing declined having Crown staff park there on peak days due to the forthcoming 'development'. So Crown went to Curtin Uni running a bus service for workers thus allowing maximum parking for their clients.

So if Perth Racing do offer parking to anyone in the second season of the stadium being open, they would want to be making a considerable amount of money out of it, as these opportunities don't fall out of trees that often.

A lot of people used to park at Crown and catch the train to Subiaco for home games anyway.

Anything to do with belmont park ends up in a shower of turds. Whats that old saying, **** up? Brewery? Not being able to facilitate = Belmont Park. The site has that many roadblocks its not funny. cant even sell parking next to our brand new stadium , fair dinkum and its only coming to light now. Why wasnt anyone lobbying Town of Vic Park years ago?

That is directly from RWWA. Perth Racing contribute almost nothing to stakes in real terms. For instance, all the $1M races are funded by RWWA, I believe almost all black type is as well.

I'm pretty sure that total stakes money has increased, but I don't think stakes money has had an across the board increase...Probably cos RWWA is too busy bailing out PR!!

Exactly what the dockers did with Pavlich and the Eagles tried to do with Juddy.

Van Heemst's Colin snub, and what has come of it, will possibly go down as the greatest f*ck up in WA racing. His reward? A race named in his honour, couldn't make this stuff up.

So much potential down the drain.

Stayed at the Casino for a couple of nights last week. me 'n the missus went for a few long walks around the place in the early mornings to wake up.The new stadium looks sensational, as do the surrounding parks etc.

The Belmont racecourse is a sleeping giant!

They need to develop this into a prime twilight race venue and fit it in with the surroundings! Imagine how much coin a multi storey car park would generate, all year round, on all that vacant land!

The Saturday arvo footy.. or cricket... or whatever finishes, punters stroll across the bridge to a vibrant race meet with a band playing or whatever else.

The governments of this state are a deplorable bunch of no-hoppers, frittering our money away on pathetic monuments and other rubbish. They have the foresight of a blind mullet!!
