Just looking at the topsy turvy nature of AFL, Essendon a good case in point.
Round 1. Underdog - Won.
Round 2. Favourite - Lost.
Round 3. Favourite - Lost.
Round 4. Underdog - Won.
Round 5. Slight underdog - ???

Realise this sounds silly but the moment gave the Crows a big chance against Sydney in Sydney was after they were demolished at home against the Pies. Beware the wounded, backs to the wall footballer.

Fairly average performance by the Eagles today against the bottom-placed side. Will take the win but were outplayed at the start of every quarter, only ever got on top of Carlton in the "time on" period of the first three quarters. In fact, Carlton did not score after the 20-minute mark in any of the first three quarters, with only Casboult and McKay kicking a goal each in the final two minutes of the game.

The new match tribunal system (Michael Christian) hasn't changed anything in lessening the confusion over penalties.
It is a lucky dip in terms of what players are going to get these days.
I used to get fired up on tribunal outcomes. NOT ANY MORE.

Yet last year at this point we were 5-0.
The year Nathan Brown folded his leg in half (early 2000’s) we started 8-0 (fell apart after Browns injury).
So more a function of other teams records than ours......(having multiple unbeaten teams v’s none this year).

Of course.

A bit like in the 2009 season when St Kilda and Geelong were both 13-0 when they played each other in R14. St Kilda were on top from R3 onwards, Geelong always 2nd on percentage from R4 onwards.

Just to let you know, it was 2005 when Brown broke his leg in R10 v Melbourne. Richmond going into that game were 7-2 (3rd), have lost to Geelong in R1 and St Kilda in R5 (both by 10+ goals).

Did think 8-1 upon reflection, but close yes.
Either way wheels fell off after that.
Both from losing a top player, and no doubt the mental trauma incurred to others.

Did anyone see Shane Edwards blind 40m lateral kick across half forward knowing a team mate would be there in the 2nd quarter ?
Each player on the same page playing their role and trusting their team mates and structures.

Yesterday was the first time in 12 years, that Geelong has lost a game at Kardinia Park after leading at half-time, were 12 points up at H/T, ended up losing by 17 points.

The previous time was against the Eagles, R10 2006, when they led by 39 points at H/T and ended up losing by three points. In the 88 games at Kardinia Park since that game, Geelong have won 77, drawn 1 and only lost ten (four of those were against Sydney).
