More to the point, why would you want to own them outright.

    Boring AF

Exactly right Nevershow. Imagine being in that little room at Belmont all by yourself. Half the fun of winning one is celebrating with your mates

Not that i have any mates, but its not hard to find a few hanger oners and family to fill the room up if you find the line first. I think we had about 50 owners on one of Essayez's wins!!!!! haha

You'll be the first to know mate. We'll just stick with the computer file name for the time being :))

Only 50? That’s cute.... 2017 WATC Derby the crowd that syndicate pulled post race will not be topped for as long as we live \m/

Did you all squeeze in the room???

I remember a race at Belmont that we won in the early noughties, and they couldn't get us out before the next horses came into the mounting yard...so looked us in there..We all came out during the race as the fridge was empty and they were too slow serving the spirits!!!

lol they had 3 in the Roma Cup, ran 1,2,3 yet still couldn't get close the crowd the 2017 Derby winner pulled  ^:)^

and i'm aware the same owners were in all 3 horses, still would have thought having the 3 favs in a group 3 would attract a decent cult following  :-*

What about the red jackets...There were lots of them, and the jackets made them really stand out...What horse was that in?

Think it was Red aura when Dan Morton had it wasn't it a bunch of Aquinis mates had it. About the same time as all the girls in Man Booka I think

Judging by the amount of times he moves stabkes with his horses, he may be a little hard to get along with so the solo approach might be his style ;)
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
I think that's a sign of the times Ned. I can assure you as a solo owner i have no hesitation to change trainers for whatever reason.......ZERO hesitation. In a syndicate there it is very difficult to do that and keep everyone happy. So there is less trainer hoping.

When a trainer f..ks up, i dont give them another $60k (cost of a horse to get to racing these days) to see if he gets it right the next time!?!?! ;-) and yes i straight away get labelled as a difficult owner for moving........I have found when a trainer says someone is difficult, it generally means that the person had a different opinion to the trainer!!! haha

Just on PTT, a lot of people read this site but don't contribute and that is probably why the interest is declining rapidly. In the past, statements have been made that were done so to incite and divide by people who failed to put their name to those postings. As a result, less and less people want to contribute to this site for fear of public vilification and ridicule just for expressing an opinion. Many licensed potential contributors stay away from getting involved in discussions, as to do so invites questions from officialdom and in the end it's just not worth the effort.

It's a shame really, as in this town there are almost none who are prepared to hold account those who determine the direction and policy of our industry. Everybody just wants to roll along saying nothing to see here, move along.

It's the reason why people just give up and find something else to do.

The only difference is i put it in writing....But there are lots that feel the same way.

To add to the conversation. I'm tertiary qualified, got Diploma's and Trade certificates, and then i have a person who is regularly non scholarly telling me how they are going to spend my tens of thousands of dollars. If i question it they get shitty...WTF?????? So they get shitty cos i want an explanation about something...So if they stay shitty - which they usually do, as they have had no formal training to be a manager -  i move my horses. After 30 years in business i have learned that once respect for each other is lost, there is no point hanging around. It only gets uglier if only one side knows how to deal with conflict...

How's them apples????? I've only been sacked by 1 trainer, and he beat me to it by seconds as i'd rung up to tell him i was moving my horses, but he got in first!!!! hahaha

And Damo makes a great point. Anyone involved in the industry cant comment. RWWA have proven with their regular prosecuting of me, that to give an opinion cost you dearly. Its got to the point where i no longer am involved in the ownership of any of our horses. Denying me of an opportunity to truly enjoy all the great aspects of my lifetime passion of Racing. If we every get lucky  enough to ave a group or listed winner...my name wont appear alongside any of them...And that little bit of acknowledgement is a part of why we spend the money we do on our hobby. If Mrs RIO didn't love the industry as much as i did we woudl have got out 3 or 4 years back. SO due to occasionally giving an opinion on social media, i am now forced to ensure i have no ownership of our racers, breeders or dogs. Invest $7-800k over the past 6 years and RWWA have forced me to accept no acknowledgement, due to my opinion being different to theirs...

Got a lot to do with me not commenting on here Damo..Need 1 or 2 more horses to die and then i can crank up and go as hard as i want!!!!!!! haha, Although they have already advised me they can still warn me off racetracks and ban me from living on my property, as there are licensed animals on my property.....And we want discussion on teh industry??????? hahaha

Not if your licensed to RWWA and dont hide behind a moniker.

I think i have been charged and fined 5 times(it may be 4 or 6, i dont keep count)...and been threatened with bans on 2 of those 5 times...ALL for comments on Social Media......The only opinion RWWA want to hear you talk about is theirs!!!
