    Can i add the topic of our Horses sent  overseas  mostly to  Asian Countries and  few ever see  Australia again,   what about all these animals that are thrown out into that   outcome,,     Horses raised in Australian conditions  sent into limb  really.   These Animals  also deserve consideration  and its almost too frightening to think of their  end of life scenario  .

    Edinburgh Park Stud in NSW have announced a lifetime buyback of any of their yearlings sold from off the farm or via Magic Millions and Inglis sales rings to the tune of $1,000. Whatever they have bred they will retire to their paddocks for life once they have finished their racing days. A fabulous initiative.

    We don’t buy Yearlings.

    It’s a great offer I mean.
    I read it though as the stud will pay the owners to buy them back ???
    I think that’s over generous...... they should be charging $1,000, or at least just saying will re home then for free.
    Kudos to them either way.

    Some of the studs would have a bit to play with---2018 - the 24 highest price colts sold for a million or more top price was 2.3mil. name groundswell.  

    50th highest price sold for  650,000-----highest 50 prices the total received was-over 50million.

    Edinburgh park at least its a option for there horses that have no other option ----re. equestrian life etc-------,the fillys you would think they would gladly take them back, as they seem to  run a  boutique operation. gladly give you1k. for a filly you have purchased for 200k.from a good family. think dealing in  very small numbers here.but something.

    Wonder if arrowfield  would take the redoute,s choice  back  that went in the wind.

    It's a buyback scheme, rather than see them be mistreated

    Yes, get that.
    Wouldn’t think they’d need to buy them back though.
    Anyone would gladly hand them over (if in that position - no other home for them)

    has anyone thought how much these life time agistment would cost? has anyone considered the amount of land that would be required...there would, over just a couple of years be literally thousands of horses requiring life time care. what about vet. fees?
    the ABC programme was a horrendous watch and the barbarian method must be addressed and policed but as far as outlawing the culling is pie in the sky stuff.
    the old saying off to the knackery (or glue factory) has been around for centuries.
    before you start labelling me a sadist let me assure you I was as horrified of the footage as you all were but to re-home every horse is unviable both financially and economically.
    extreme humanitarianism must be policed in all knackeries.

    Yes, hence why I was surprised by the above offer to BUY the horses for $1,000.
    I’d happily pay $1,000 for each retired horse to see them off to a guaranteed good home for life.

    Forward thinking sales pitch?  Would it add to the amount you'd be willing to pay for one of their horses at the sales if this guarantee was in place?

    The 1k is to outbid the $500 that the owners would receive from the doggers if the owners were inclined to send them there

    Yes, as I suggested above the sale of to such destinations needs to be outlawed by the state governments.

    Just got around to watching the episode.

    • 1 - Those abattoir staff should face criminal prosecution for animal cruelty.  No excuse for treating any animal in your care the way they did.
    • 2 - Racing NSW and the like can no longer say they are doing something and not following up on it.
    • 3 - V'Landys at first came across reasonably well, then decided to try and fight back (with the domestic pet statement), should have just copped it sweet and said we need to improve!
    • 4 - How a horse like Tahitian Black ends up at a knackery is disgraceful.
    • 5 - We, as an industry, need to do better!

    It's come to light now that a few, if not more than a few of the horses named are actually alive and well on owners and participants properties. I heard a few and one of them is Tahitian Black. While this is an extremely big problem for the industry, seems to be a little bit of creative journalism as well. Nothing surprises me anymore

    i was going to tee off on the west facebook page when i saw this article only to notice that the west has banned me from commenting on their social media for similar outbursts....

    However, racing doesnt need wannabees like troy or any of the johnny come lately f grade perthonalities. How much money was actually going into racing from his party? Id say zero, or maybe a bit of tab turnover but thats it. If he was a sponsor of a major race club they maybe he could make a stand. But he aint. Racing has many bigger swinging dicks than troy that live and breath racing and do much more for it than a pin dick party. Its their opinion that matters not troys. Let him stick to hosting beauty padgents

    I wish i knew how to paste the Allan Jones sky news report on this  if any one can please do . Think it may have even been on the Peter Credlin show on sky. He makes some very interesting points

    Suppose i had better enter the fray,i believe its the end of life scenes not many like to witness just the trucking,strange smells and noises in new surroundings that must terrify the horses alone,why not have their own vet go to the horses own stable and do the deed quickly then bury on site.
