    If anyone is looking for some-one to take 10% or so of a purchase - depending on all the usual factors (upper limit, type of horse, trainer etc etc) I might be interested

    Hold those conversations in private or better yet face to face. Otherwise you will get a 16 page letter regarding syndicating breeches that someone organised to be sent to me two years ago, when I tried to help out a Trainer trying to fill a gap left by a bad payer.

    Someone thought it was a fun thing to do to drop me in the poop with RWWA. I turn away all those requests now as a result.

    The Diva & Tivers are probably your best bet, from people I know on here. Or speak to a trainer or two that you are keen to have one with. They may buy one on spec

    I'm not interested in being part of a syndicate. Have raced them by myself (or in partnership) for years , bred a couple but can see a bit of a lull in the near future.

    Just looking for a little piece as an interest ( reason to get to the track and drink overprced beers & bourbon ;) ) until the next of my own are ready.

    If anyone is interested I know of a number of 2yos ex the 2013 Perth yearling sale in which there are still small shares available for sale. Call me at the MM office and I will be only too happy to pass on the contacts. Some of these are very forward in their education so not far from the races, just need owners. Cheers David

    Perception..... now there is a road block. I say it is very hard to hit the target shooting from the hip. My job involves me liaising with people in the industry daily, many of them trainers and syndicators and we discuss all the time how they are going moving yearlings that have been purchased. Sometimes for all sorts of reasons there are shares available in horses. I work to help where possible. It is up to individuals to make a decision as to if a particular horse will suit them or not but there are opportunities there. Just a little story about perception. When I was working on a stud farm in the Hunter Valley I was involved in the purchase of 2 horses about which there was perception. One had been passed in at sale, perceived not worth the money and the other the next year repossessed , perceived not worth paying for. We inspected them and checked the circumstances and purchased. One won a Golden Slipper and Flight Staked and just under $3mil, the other ran 2nd in GC MM 2yo , won a Dark Jewel Classic, and placed 6 times at Group and Listed Level. Both were well named and we had the last laugh. Somethings are worth investigation.

    Great response David but you are most probably wasting your time with a lot of the forum members who always look to the negative or conspiracy. A bit like your comments above, I still have a blackfriars colt from last year which I did not get what I wanted.

    If they are that good set up a little syndicate...call it BC4...no license required, mo money, no need to pay for horses and then you can advertise for owners. In breach of all regulations due to who you are..

    Some people have been questioned or badgered by RWWA for doing exactly what David did....a person in his position should be more savvy than that.

    As everyone knows most yearlings bought at the sale won't break even. Buying into a 2yo saves 12 months of bills and waiting another year to establish if the horse is worth hanging on to. Stats show the glass is always half empty when purchasing horses. And you have a greater opportunity to do your due diligence buying post auction.

    if anyone wants to see an absolute cracking yearling... check out Mabel Grace's full brother at the sales. I was out at Rivercrest Stud a few weeks ago and it is an amazing looking animal with a superb temprement. Wish I had the $$$ to buy it!

    I have a 2yo and three yearlings, none of which I will be taking to the sales due to poor past results.

    Tempestuous Strike did not get a bid at the sales a few years back and I leased him out as an untried 2yo. Those blokes subsequently bought him and have done well out of him. 

    No doubt, someone will get a good deal on the four i have in the paddock, but I'm not quitting them for the sake of quitting them at the sales. Funkster is right, you save $15k buying one as a 2yo now as opposed to a yearling.

    Sure you save on costs but it is also harder to get into a quality 2yo because there is more info on them and many have already had a prep and shown what kind of ability they have, i.e. they will be snaffled up more quickly if they show something early and also their base price tag may increase with added expectation...

    This upcoming 2014 Perth Yearling Sale, for a fee, I will be offering an analysis of the breeding on any lots on offer. For specific fillies, I will also mare match if you stand a stallion or own shares in one, and are looking for post race broodmares. I'm currently working through the catalog  at this time, and already have found several lots that interest me strongly. I have also found some that are red flagged as not to purchase.

    I anticipate my research will be completed prior to inspections and farm visits are started in January.

    It was a general statement on the subject, there are pros and cons for both approach, neither better than the other given the amount of uncertainty and variables of the game.

    it exists @Diva - i was looking at them a few weeks back - site had it broken down by different sales by memory MM, Inglis, different sales etc it was just into the 2yr old year and I don't think a Sales horse had won a race

    faaarrrqqq - I just cleared history yesterday will see if I can find it again ( not something I thought I would look at again so didnt bookmark :-<

    far this season 39 individual yearling sale graduates have won juvenile
    races in Australia and 32 of them are Magic Millions graduates.


    2YO CITY WINS



    Unencumbered ($70,000 at 2013 Gold Coast Yearling Sale - Newhaven Park)
    staked his claim for the $2 million Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic with
    a highly impressive win at Kensington in Sydney.



    Prepared by Bjorn Baker, Unencumbered settled back in the field under
    Nathan Berry but produced a powerful, sustained sprint in the straight
    to win by a length and a quarter.



    A graduate of Newhaven Park, Unencumbered is by former Magic Millions
    Classic winner Testa Rossa and from the stakes winning More Than Ready
    mare Blizzardly.



    Stroak ($27,000 at 2013 Gold Coast March Yearling Sale - Glenlogan Park
    to Bryan Guy) emerged as one of the leading contenders for Queensland's
    richest race after a strong win at Doomben on Saturday.



    The Bryan Guy prepared filly will be out to make it back to back wins in
    the Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic for a daughter of Real Saga
    following Real Surreal's win last January.



    A Glenlogan Park graduate of the Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, Stroak
    showed speed and cruised home under Michael Cahill to win by a length
    and a quarter.



    Hobart Jones ($50,000 at 2013 Perth Yearling Sale - Rangeview Stud to
    Commercial Bloodstock Services) kicked away his career in the best
    possible way at Ascot in Perth with a brilliant win in the Westspeed
    Plate on Saturday.



    Prepared by Vern Brockman, Hobart Jones settled back in the field but
    came home strongly to beat his rivals in effortless style for an
    impressive debut win.



    Hobart Jones is from the city winning Tribu mare Tribulot and is a
    graduate of Rangeview Stud. He cost $50,000 and earned $38,400 for the
    win on the weekend.

    Hobart Jones earned $58,400 at his first start. I really get tired of these inaccurate press releases that are taken off lifetime earnings from CRIS, which of course refuses to include Westspeed earnings. The Studbook and everyone else does include bonus money in earnings, as they should.

    Another Perth Racing press release referred to Magnifisio's earnings as almost $200,000, when in fact she surpassed that some time ago and is now at $279,100. The same accuracy with Petrol Power winning a 'listed race' when in fact it was a Group 3.

    But I do love their mobile phone photo's they post.

    if they wish to list bonus incentives then they need to be listed separately.

    A horses race earnings are just that - earnings for winning or running a place in a race -not earnings because the breeder/owner elected to buy a lottery entry in westpeed / bobs etc etc

    Most of these schemes are an incentive to flog young horses [-(
