The Perth 2YO Season so far

After yesterday's timely win by Essayez over 1100M, I thought I would have a look through the performances of the 2YO's since late November.
There have been four 1100M races and a further five 1000M races held.
In the later, only Chantski has broken one minute with a 58.83 and a final 600M of 34.24. the closest performance to him would be 6 lengths behind by Invincible Man, then Light Up The Sky a further 3 lengths behind again.
Over 1100M, Shady Grey sets the pace at 1.06.06 with a closing 600M of 36.91. Diamond Tonique was about two lengths behind this time but with a faster 600M the Essayez some seven lengths further behind with a slower closing 600M.
My point being that apart from Chantski's run, nothing else has impressed by comparison to the last couple of seasons. Unless the best is still to be seen, this is not an inspiring crop of 2YO's by the usual standards seen here in Perth.
So I wouldn't be betting with any confidence on exposed form to date is essentially what I am saying.

I've been told that the training surface doesn't encourage horses to dig in to the surface, they sort of glide across it, so maybe that is contributing to why the times are slower

Last year only 2 broke 1 minute for 1000m to this time of year - Roebuck, 59.62 on 26/10/13 and Hobart Jones 59:30 on 21/12/13.
This year I can find only 2 - Lucky Street, 59.24 on 25/10/14 and Chantski, 58.83 on 10/01/15
EDIT - over the 1100
13/14 - 1.05.50- 1.06.62- 1.06.92- 1.05.20
14/15 - 01:06:21- 1:06:28- 1:07:92- 1:07:41
the time of a race is fully dependent on the horse setting the pace, and then times mean different things on different days, under different conditions.
and nearly every race can be run faster than it actually is(especially in wa where crawling is the norm).
anyway, a rough look at yesterday, shows me the 1st race winner ran only about 1.5 lengths slower than the horse you seem to think is the best so far.
even that does not mean that much because it misses the essence of the runs.

but you do breeding or whatever, and i do time.
i wlll back me every day of the week in that scenario.

A badly educated 2yo might run on fear

VITALISM must been the exception with a blistering 59.51 lead up run
That would make londener line closest 3 1/2 lenghts according to cris
=))

Vitalism broke 1 minute in all of it's 1000m races

one minute one day will not necessarily mean one minute the next.
the wind could be howling either way, they could have vertidrained, their mower could have gone on the blink!!
it could have pissed down rain, somone could have left the sprinklers on far too long(that has happened if my memory is correct)
not to mention that ascot the last few years has been infinitely slower than it once was, for reasons that i don't know.
i don't need to know why, it only matters that i know it is true.
that is for you legless.

History tells the future - you would have all the times in front of you from years gone by - how many have won the Karrakatta that could not break 60secs over 1000m in the lead ups?
EDIT: I believe the grass is being left a little longer and a bit more water is being applied to the track - might be why times are slowing up :-??
Farq knows how it even has that status [-(
i am just of the opinion that times, while important in the big picture, are only really one small part of a big puzzle.
i could probably check your question, but it's past my bed time nearly!!
and the following especially is nonsensical.....
"Running 1.07.00 or more is almost 9 lens off the times required to win a slick run lead up race to a Karrakatta Plate. "
for starters how much time is 9 lengths??? in perth it would be about 1.44 seconds on any ground(.16 lps), but that is a construct and nothing to do with reality.
pretty sure that the winner on any particular race only has to run fast enough to win the race.
no more money for running time, and why would you run faster than you need to?
as far as yesterday goes, i don't know yet what i think of it overall, i just know that the horse that led was left standing still, and that the winner put a few lengths on them in a hurry.
what more should it have done?
