Kingston Town Day - Saturday 5th December

West Australian Racing
While I'm in a ranting mood, the Aquanita (R1) and the Lee Steere Classic (R2) have been "hidden" at the start of Saturdays program due to the lack of nominations and obivous quality.
The system is seriously broken. Even bob could only muster one runner for each.
+1 -1

Take Arcadia Dream out of the Aquanita, and the rest would only be at a level of a midweeker.
How this race remains a listed race I don't honestly know.
Would be better off splitting the Belgravia stakes earlier in the season into 2 races over 1200m one for boys and one for the girls

How the hell are these races not being run as Race 3 and 4 - pathetic to place them as the opening races on the card (regardless of the field)

The Placid Ark and Lee Steere Classic would be better placed as lead ups to the Belmont Guineas.

Thursday afternoon is standard for them.  The KT is available, but you have to click the special button, its not on the race day screen.

SB and Bet365 open up Wednesday afternoon, but getting a bet of any decent size on that early is always going to be troublesome.

I think the scary thing is the only reason they're in Perth is because they didn't get an invite to HK, The fact that they would even entertain taking on the world's best at a mile or further tells you what they think of the horse.

Completely agree with Diva regarding the quality of the 'Group 3.' Having said that i don't think $150,000 is enough for a supposed Group 3 race. Maybe if it was more like $200-$250k we might see the likes of Manbooker, Blackwood, Perfect Reflection... competing and raising the quality of the race. I think this is a good quality Saturday race if anything. There needs to be some incentive for the 3yo's to stay in their age group in my opinion.

I also think overall there should be less Listed races throughout the season (25 max). The saved money should then be used to increase the group 3 prize money or be used to increase the 2nd and 3rd place prize money at the grass roots level in order to give more horses a chance to earn.

I've only been involved in racing for a few years so i'm happy for the PTT members to educate me on why we need so many Listed races.

How do you sell horses at the sales that aren't by Black Type mares, or have direct siblings who have won black type?

    Breeders run WA racing.

I just feel like the Listed races are being devalued by having so many. If they were limited you would have bigger fields competing for that all important black type and the Listed win would actually mean so much more.

As a buyer i would prefer to purchase a yearling that had it's mare consistently racing in 80+ events because i know it's earned it's rating by consistently winning. Rather than a mare who's managed to jag 1 black type win due to a small or noncompetitive field.

I would also love that if my horse wasn't up to Listed or Saturday grade that i still might be able make a dollar due to the increased prize money at the lower levels. Then i might be tempted to buy another.

This time last year I posted an example of how our feature races could be structured, and yet the only change that has been made is moving the Scahill, which ended up being a small field anyway.

    Link to my suggestion:

One of the things I check when looking through a yearling catalogue, is the total prizemoney a relative has won when it is referred to as the number of wins only. If not indicated, I also search that horse for the distances that it won over and in doing so, you get the opportunity to see the field that it beat. This is very time consuming but I can't see the breeding or selling industry wanting to disclose this level of detailed information, as it most likely downgrades a yearlings perceived value to most buyers. Because the devil in the detail takes a lot of time when doing this, I don't even look this far into a yearling's family until I'm pretty sure my shortlist is just about there.

By the way, the Perth book should be in the mailbox in around 2 weeks if going on the last couple of years.

Just realised it's $35 for GA entry tomorrow.

For those with a little smarts - download and install the TABtouch app on your iPhone or Android phone, show it at the gate and magic - free entry tomorrow!

Also, a bonus for those betting with TABtouch app or online tomorrow, money back on fixed win bets (up to $50) on Races 2-5

they are so far behind in the reality stakes  its not funny. Keeping 2moro at $35 is insane. I hope nobody pays to get in tomorrow. I hope everyone downloads the tab touch app.

But wasn't that Ted's mantra ? He was a believer in over charging for all services as a tool for keeping an illusion of 'class'.

Just another day of racing where I can easily find something else to do.

35 bucks is overkill for a day which is a racing 'purists' day, no band, no djs, 20 bucks would be reasonable.
