dunno if it's as relevant or not but QLD are going ahead and will be extending the amount of meeting they have under lights to due recent success and/or popularity....
my point being, every state NSW (cantebury) VIC (mooney valley) QLD (Toowoomba) TAS (Launceston) all have frequent night meetings yet WA cant keep up in that regard!
there'd be nothing more popular than a Friday or Saturday night meeting in Perth for thoroughbreds, all you need to do is take a look at the crowds GP can still pull on half decent nights when the trots are on to tell yourself that WA needs night racing, whats the worse that can currently happen in a dying local industry

Night racing is the way to go. And stick with the Cranbourne/MV/Canterbury model of 30min intervals. Make sure there is plenty of action! Get all the races run before 9.30 so it gives people the "kick on" option.

I'm all for it - night racing, try Friday if it doesn't work out then give it a go on Saturday night - install Trakus - go the full Monty I say >:/

Why does anyone think a change form Saturday racing to Friday night is a goldmine?
On course income doesn`t contribute anything to stakemoney.
No other state runs their prime meeting at night.
Income from total pare-mutuel betting is 75% from races outside WA.
RWWA income from Saturday racing is around 6% of total income.
A lot of forum members have no idea how RWWA makes money for the industry.

fair suck of the sos, lame, night racing in vic and nsw have no adverse comments from jocks...they are tucked up in bed by 10pm...and cop @200 bucks a ride...
most trainers have "foremen' to look after the horses so they are home watching my kitchen rules or something.

if anything It would boost it! imagine the e/s punters half cut on a Friday/Saturday night punting on our local races... would be great for turnover imo
I love going to Adelaide or Melbourne and being able to tune in and watch the quaddie legs of an ascot meeting late in the evening..
when daylight savings is on you can wake up here in WA and the first race in Melbourne be run by 8am some mornings during spring then on the flip side for the e/s punters they could still enjoy our racing later into their night
For some reason the emocons not showing up so can't edit , sorry monkey was just fat fingers on my phone and not showing up to delete
