yep 5 races starting at 6pm and finishing at 8pm..Everyon get a chance to play and those other races can be spread on other days!!!

Irrespective of that though it is great to see they made an early call. if it is 38C on Wednesday then they still get a thumbs up from me as it would have been on the end of several 40C days for the horses.

anyone else receive an email from Racing Vic asking to take a short survey regarding them trialling 30 minute gaps between races.......

    Racing
Victoria has commenced trialling a condensed racing format across the state for
the coming week, in a bid to improve the raceday experience for fans and
    participants.

    As
such Racing Victoria are conducting a short survey to assess the impact of this
trial, and would appreciate your feedback.

    Please
note that Racing Victoria will be surveying participants and the media under
separate cover at the completion of the 30 minute gap trial which commenced on
    6 February 2016 and concludes on 12 February 2016.

    Your
feedback is for internal use. The results may be published as a collective
only. Your response will remain anonymous..

30 minutes between races is long overdue.  I have promoted that idea for many years. I also think each state should have set starting times as for example MR start on the hour and half hour AR five past and 25 to the hour SR Quarter Past and Quarter to the hour.. you get the drift.

with melb. trying 30mins between races has raised the ire of sky...they switched a sat. melb race to sky2 while they showed dalby or some God forsaken race on sky1.
  • Slow down people. They can't get the horses to race within 40 minutes usually. I can just imagine the sky presenter now.. " Ascot is over to sky 2" .. " ascot dragging the chain ".

in all seriousness though as im not a jockey or trainer or strapper etc nor have I spoke to any regarding it but what is a realistic time for those involved between races to have enough until the next one kicks off?

to me 45 mins seems excessive in the first place for jockeys, by the time the weigh in and head back to the change rooms i'd of thought they'd be sitting around twiddling their thumbs waiting to head out for the next race........

protests are one of the issues.....Its hard to get it all sorted, so there needs to be a plan put in place to deal with that..I'd suggest a protest panel(or single steward), sitting in a video room reviewing tapes the minute the race visits, so they are prepared for any protests. And maybe one of the clerks of the course to be wired up for any chance of a protest as soon as the horse are slowing down..So if a jock says he wants to protest, look at film etc, it can be relayed to the Protest steward, or the mounting yard steward to have vision ready for quick/easy viewing...

Jocks are the biggest issue. Only get about a 15minute rest between off and on times. And could be tough for smaller trainers with less staff (or none) getting saddles and cloths from room to horse to yard to track and back again..

All of those could be solved if there was a willingness to make it happen.

A lot of debate about 30mins or 40mins , the happy medium is 35mins..just right. In saying that can't see what's wrong with the 40mins...surely the big bash mentality doesn't have to apply to everything we do in life. A day at the races flies by between the first and the last...why shorten a great day?!!

Cut the BS out of protest.  Whats the jock going to say?  "Yes, I moved over, and it probably cost the other horse the race."  No, they all say it was marginal if its against them, and "worth 2 lengths" if they're protesting.

Then the trainer and connections all get a go.  After that, the stewards ignore them all and go with the video.......

Cut the crap, and just let the stewards watch the video and make a determination.  Over and done with within 10 minutes.

be interesting to see how they're going to get thru 10 races this weekend and at what intervals.
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,486 posts
    11.30am start, 6pm finish.....that's nearly 400mins so 40min intervals....simple...
  • LeglessLegless    5,108 posts

    :-? simple

    10 races with a 40min interval = 360 mins  - start at 11.30 finish at 17.40 :-B

Last week they were saying on RR that because of Ascots current layout, getting horses to and from parade is a problem but may be possible for Belmont.

Having said that they mentioned the SKY Channel making the final decision on times, until that is sorted in some way, shorter intervals are not possible and that it was a mute subject unless SKY change

I thought it was a massive leap forward into the 21st century getting Esperance to start a couple of hours early, which they did last week.
