Just turn the sound down and watch the colours yourself. Easy solution really. If I want results away from a TV, I just log onto the TAB website.

It cuts down on the gratuitous advertising as well.

Just watched the replay, and thought the same. So do you think it is done to try and build excitement because Mystic Prince was no closer than the finishing margin the entire straight.

Hilton Donaldson is replacing dmac at the end of the ascot season. Let's hope he finishes in style.

If this muppet comes anywhere near racing in WA i will move my interests elsewhere https://www.punters.com.au/news/From-the-vault:-Hilton-Donaldsons-last-stand_142863/

    Where is Hilton Donaldson.

Why did he lose his job. Was he drunk during a race meeting.

    Can Ernie get the lowdown.

I would think that comment is tongue in cheek because if not you are selling him very short indeed. Daz Mac could score employment elsewhere not just because of his media talent but also if history is anything to go by eg Trevor Jenkins (was a very good caller) scored a job at the ABC and he isn't the greatest of sports news presenters.

Daz Mac is a very good Auctioneer and MC  so there you have  two roles he already earns an income from and that would be just for a start even before he needs to chase fresh employment interests. He currently voices a radio commercial and though the commercial script is average (a worry when you have to identify yourself at the start) his voice is fine. Voice Overs not necessarily a first option but certainly another option in the employment portfolio.

Yes his lack of accuracy in racecalls (just get the first four correct at least Daz) has attracted my critiques at times but I do not accept his talent limits him to just calling races. He is a very good media talent and gets my full positive support on that front.

Plenty of ordinary Auctioneers and MCs out there that he would leave in his wake.

    On this occasion Youdontknowit.

I like Dmac. Especially when he calls mine first past the post

You would have to wait for correct weight to make sure he got it right.

Racing: FCK Listening to MacAullay u would have sworn Tonto was home 4 your tea money at the 200m!

I thought it was a good call, maybe did highlight Tonto looming but that was the excitement of a feature race kicking in imo

He called Zarantz 4th but it was Bedamijo a length by itself in the clear.

Even the host on sky followed his lead and repeated the numbers after the finish. I know this because and ole digger in the pub tab through his quartet ticket in the bin and had too fish it out after I told him the Fuuck up.

At the of the day DMac is a damn good human being and i have forgiven him many a time for his accuracy deficiences and that is good enough for me. Having said they should get Stewie Shenton back for a guest appearance. Lol

I agree with you Gray about him being a top bloke. I have only met him once. But have listened too him speak at functions on numerous occasions. Seems too me a genuine fella.

But surely this day and age you can have a monitor in the box on a 20 second delay to glance over and get the 3rd 4th 5th placing correct after you get caught up in the moment of a close finish. There was a length difference from 4th and 5th yesterday

I doubt many / any of you would be so overtly coherent as to construct your vociferous negative opinions if gathered in a direct conversation with him.
Ive found Darren to be quite approachable, if engaged in a constructive conversation. And even an imbibed one...
  • SLIPPERGOLDENSLIPPERGOLDEN    8,452 posts
Choc you are as inaccurate as some of his placegetter first four calls. I would suggest that most on here who have critiqued him would have no hesitation in making comments to him directly reason being there is a multitude of race replay evidence and Darren Mac would know that.

Once again I've failed to take into account the fact that the vocal majority on here are indeed far more equipped to execute all aspects of race broadcasting than those currently undertaking the task.

I should have known better, apologies. I'll see myself out.

Nothing to do with others being more equipped for executing race broadcasting. He is open to be critiqued as we all are in our line of profession.

I just watched replay from Pinjarra Dmac, Silver King races upto Skies Of Blue. What the hell it never got closer to 1 and a half length to the leader at any stage in the straight. :-?
