Incorrect, there was a salary cap albeit with  (from memory a 10%) extension granted for "living away from home" allowance, same a Sydney (cost of living adjustment or whatever they called it). Brisbane players took salary cuts to ensure they could keep the squad together and but for the actions of "City Hall" who were desperate to prevent a 4 in a row scenario with all sorts of really pointed calls, the Lions would have had the 4 flags in a row.
McGuire whinged and moaned and complained as only he can and the AFL withdrew the allowance.

    Essendon - "hold my beer"

I just cannot fathom how bad we played last night, and more to the point, bullied when they know there is a finals spot on the line. The bullies definitely want it more. I've said it before, the gap between our best and worst is a massive chasm. After beating Adelaide in SA we have had a forgettable 3 weeks. Should not have beaten the Gold Coast, the Port (I thought) embarrassed us, but I hadn't seen nothing yet after last night's debacle.

I saw a better team display at Lathlain park yesterday

Essendon wont make the 8 now

    Spot on JJ.

There are a lot of incorrect comments in this thread usually by those with Victorian club bias.

    Spot on JJ.

There are a lot of incorrect comments in this thread usually by those with Victorian club bias.
Apparently the Eagles were given open slather to chose their inaugural side which is also totally incorrect as they were only allowed a maximum of 5 players from each WAFL club which meant a lot of great WA talent left to go East as they (along with Brisbane) were only given a squad of 35 to chose compared to 52 of the Vic clubs whilst poor old Brisbane got Vic club cast offs.
The following players in the WAFL would have been very handy for the WCE in 1987-

Mark Bairstow (1986 Sandover Medallist- Geelong)
    Earl Spalding (Melbourne)
    Warren Dean (Melbourne)
    Craig Starcevich (Collingwood)
    Michael Christian (Collingwood)
    Peter Sartori (Carlton)
    Richard Dennis (Carlton)
    Steve DaRui (Carlton)
    Paul Harding (Hawthorn)
    Peter Wilson (Richmond)
    Michael Mitchell (Richmond)
    Nicky Winmar (St Kilda)

The Eagles also only were able to entice Ross Glendiinning (Age 31), Dean Turner & John Annear (both 28) back from the VFL in 1987, Hawthorn took to the courts to keep Gary Buckenara & Paul Harding from coming back home to the WCE.
Does anyone remember some of the Eagles inaugural squad- Glen Bartlett, Sean King, Don Langsford, Paul Mifka, Michael O'Connell, Glenn O'Loughlin, Dean Warwick etc hardly household names even in the WAFL pre 1987.

It would make even more interesting viewing if he went on 9 and talked to Pav about how he was sacked.

Gerard Whately would be a keen viewer after RTB has not forgiven Gerard of unloading on him after Gerard accused RTB of back stabbing, treachery etc etc. RTB has not appeared on any of Gerards shows since.

The interview was as normal with 7 a waste of space, 2 minutes during the so said news and said nothing. Just the normal media beat up in Perth.

Just heard big Sandi is calling it quits finished . For a big fella he has had a great career. Good luck to him in retirement . When I heard breaking news from Freo thought it might have been about the coach

Been a fantastic servant and up and until the last couple of years his body rarely failed him. 250+ games off the rookie list is a pretty handy achievement.

Must be something about WA ruckmen because Dean Cox was also off the rookie list if I recall correctly,

Says a bit about big fellas I think. Mumford and Jolly both rookie list as well. When they are all arms and legs they take a bit longer to develop.

Been a great servant for the Dockers.they most probably now that finals is looking very less likely have the opportunity to give Sandi and the little Nigle Ballantyne a deserved send off game this week

Same news website, articles published on the same day by 2 different sports journos. No prize for guessing which one was written by a local journo.

"The Dockers have spoken to midfielder Brad Hill about him exploring a trade to a Melbourne club. Fremantle have said that they expect Hill – contracted for two more years – to stay with the club."

"Fremantle appear resigned to losing star winger Brad Hill after weeks of uncertainty surrounding the triple Hawthorn premiership player’s future."
