    Richmond supporter here: It wouldn't surprise me if Ross Lyon ends up at Richmond as an assistant coach. Richmond lost assistant coach Blake Caracella to Essendon and he will be off to Essendon at the end of the season. That means there will be a vacancy. Ross Lyon has experience and has a good footy brain...my issue is he is too defensive...however having said that he could be a good assistant coach at Richmond and help Damien Hardwick. Time will tell.

    I'll always be a Richmond supporter. My cousin Andrew Krakoier played for the Tigers from 2001 to 2007. I have a soft spot for Collingwood as he finished his career there but I'll always be a Richmond man.

    Watching all the ex RTB players on TV tonight namely Pav Reiwoldt Goddard and then seeing tweets from Walters etc makes me wonder why RTB got the a**e ?
    Listen to them and he is the greatest coach ever.
    7 goals a game doesn't cut it boys.
    Not one learned person even mentioned that players want to leave or their managers want them to leave and the membership is going backwards.

    Probably because the players don't want to leave and it is just one manager who is a bit of a flog. I think you will find membership numbers don't actually mean a hell of a lot in the context of things, there was 47,000 at the ground on saturday night hardly a club struggling for supporters. The guy has coached in 3 of the last 10 grand finals, only Alistair Clarkson has coached in more recently so they probably have a point.

    The key to it all is you have to be a DESTINATION Club to
    win a flag.

    Freo is not (currently) a destination club.

    On the contrary – it’s a departure club.

    But that’s not to say it can’t become a destination club –
    but you need to change something to make it so.

    Good coach / CEO or not, fact figures, game plans or
    otherwise – can’t keep doing the same thing over and over.

    That’s all there is to it.

    The Bears appointed an unknown coach, and immediately became
    a destination club (Neale, Cameron et al).

    Richmond – Martin & Reiwoldt re-signing for unders,
    Lynch coming for unders.

    Geelong, West Coast, Collingwood (so the top 5) – all
    destination clubs.

    Freo - talk of them offering Kelly double that of WC to make him even consider them as a destination. (Neale gone, Hill and whoever the other one is - going, etc).

    It could have been SIR Ross Lyon except for the initials of the word SIR.

    Skills,Injuries and Recruiting.

    I pose the question how would the Eagles be going without backs McGovern, Hurn, Sheppard and Jetta and forwards Kennedy, Darling Ryan and Rioli.

    I will concede that the Eagles forwards have the wood on Hogan, Lobb, Tavener and Cocks but it has still been a significant factor in the last half of the season.

    In all seriousness - they've generally been B graders (i'll except Lobb), but more the point every team has players arrive each season - how many have come to Freo for less than they could have got elsewhere ?
    That's the measure.
    One thing for them to come...............the measure though is when they will come for unders, just to be at that club. (or re-sign for less to allow other signings).

    Selective arguments Sax. 47,000 on a clear Saturday night to farewell two favourite sons of the club. I would have thought that any other club that would have been a minimum.

    The opposition are a well supported club so how many of the crowd would have been red and black.

    The opposition was an easy kill considering they had 21 goals straight kicked on them the week before and everyone likes to see their team smash another in the flesh. (except the "easy beats" Essendon didn't follow the script)

    If what Brad Hardie said on radio this morning that the W.A  Football commission made the decision then they are obviously concerned for the direction of the club financially and that includes sponsors dropping off. Corporate boxes not being filled and declining members who would normally pay $55.00 for their seat instead of now walking up if they choose to go and paying $25.00. 

    I reckon if you did a poll on all Freo supporters who thought axing RTB was a good move, I would say the majority would say yes.

    Oh and for those that say Freo could have made the 8 if a few close losses had of gone their way, then if not for a couple of Michael Walters Houdini acts you could well have finished bottom 4.

    Given the forecast was for rain I'll take 47,000. As for anything Brad Hardie says it holds about as much weight as George Pell.

    Geez Saxon your showing your chip on the shoulder Fremantle supporter mentality. There were 5 clubs mentioned as destination clubs but you had to make a WCE thing out of it. Can you tell me how much Gaff was offered by N.Melbourne last year, and what he took to stay at WCE

    To be fair - also quite likely they went for $$$, so probably not a good example club.

    More so the Hawthorns, Geelongs and Richmond's where players have conspired (en masse) to take pay cuts, re-signed for (a lot) less than they got offered elsewhere, or come to the club for less than offered otherwise that are the example of "destination" clubs.

    They certainly got something right at the Bears though......

    Therein lies the problem with Freo. Accepting mediocrity on all levels.

    Crowds, membership, facilities, scoring, empty trophy cabinets, culture, draft picks, trades...

    In the words of Sonny and Cher "and the beat goes on"

    Trivia question for you Sax : who were the Dockers goal kickers in the last western derby. (remember Ross was coaching the best he has ever coached)

    Just on draft picks----surely  one of the most sought after people a club requires, is a top talent spotter that see things others don't, regards ability & character and  after a few years,of proven success, that clubs would be just as keen to employ him as they would a top coach....

    Always heard west coast had a state team, but the person who was responsible for the 1989 draft was Moylan ? V;K.----sure knew what he was looking at pick 64---tony evans----- 91--- brett heady----112 Ashley Mcintosh-------117 Dean Kemp. throw in peter Matera at no 4 pick...theres the nucleus of two premierships,all the clubs skipped over some of those players 4 or more times.. was he lucky or verygood  at it,,,,Freo can't even get recycled players right.

    How are we accepting mediocrity? We haven't made finals so we have sacked the coach and membership is down so they sacked the CEO, I'd say that is the opposite.
