look at the quality of hoops coming over..Hope they get as many rides on the day as they want

    Just not enough of them.............
agree...but if our hoops don't learn from watching the likes of Rawiller, Whyte, Lane, Williams and Oliver, then there will be more next year....I hope.

Was hoping you'd get Lane for the Guineas!!!

Would imagine he'd already be locked to one of the numerous MEL runners.

Zarantz still got a run last year, after being left out!  Was 100-1 and ran OK, beaten 6 lengths.

Tradesman would surely be a longer price than Variation.

Zaranta had also earned his place in the race last year - seems it should be a one way street with some trainers.  Tradesman hasn't won since he went in the Railway last year and only earned 2 points in ratings, Variation has won 5 five races since the Guineas last year and earned 26 ratings points - sorry but the handicapper got it right this year!
The handicapper that has used his discretion has got it right??? The same handicapper that gave out the points both horses have now????? if he has got it so right, then surely Tradesman needs to be re-handicapped to less that 91??

Only joking, but its a bitter pill to swallow for anyone. Off to the Carbine, and see if they can get an earn.

Pounamu won that G3 race that makes him exempt so the rating means nothing in this instance Falc

    Good question

    Was he really 50/1 ? If he draws 1-8 is a legitimate 16/1 - 20/1 chance...if draws 15 - 20 about 40/1 to 50/1 .But a rough chance still for third or fourth.

I got $34 powered to $51 on sportsbet, most other bookies not offering enhanced odds on the race...yet!

Tradesman was elevated over higher rated Zarantz last year so connections can't really complain.

Is there a breakfast with the stars this year?

Breakfast with the Stars has been abandoned for a couple of reasons. Most of the Trainers would exercise their horses in the dark, not wanting to wait until the breakfast crowd was in attendance in the daylight and obviously warmer as a result. Also the cost of putting on the show with barrier draw was deemed not viable and of little benefit to the event. So now Perth Racing have a 4.30PM barrier draw at the track tomorrow by invitation and carried live on Sky Racing into the Eastern States.

Of course this means the chance to photograph the visitors and local stars in fast work on the track has also vanished.

So who gets invited to that (and when) ?

Interesting decision from HK, might mean HK jockeys will only be available to ride in VIC and NSW in Australia from 2018.

Revised policy for jockeys to ride overseas.

    20/11/2017 16:00

The Hong Kong Jockey Club today (Monday, 20 November) announced a
revision to its policy on the permission to Club licensed jockeys to
leave Hong Kong during the season to ride elsewhere.

In addition to circumstances of jockeys riding a Hong Kong-trained
horse racing overseas, jockeys riding in a HKJC-sponsored Trophy race
which is being simulcast in Hong Kong, and jockeys taking part in
jockeys’ invitation races, the revised policy is that:

      • Permission to ride overseas in Group 1 races will generally be
limited to races in the International Federation of Horseracing
Authorities (IFHA) World’s Top 100 Group 1 and Grade 1 races established
for the year by the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings Committee,
and/or Group 1 races being simulcast in Hong Kong. Once permission to
ride in a Group1 race is granted, the jockey is allowed to take rides in
other races on the same race card but jockeys have been directed to be
        discerning in this respect.
      • Jockeys will be limited to riding at one race meeting per overseas absence.
      • Permission will be limited to riding in jurisdictions whose Rules of
Racing allow for deferral of penalty sufficient to ensure that jockeys
are able to fulfil their riding commitments in Hong Kong. In this
respect, the Club will liaise with any jurisdiction whose Rules
currently do not provide for the required period of deferral: the Club
will establish whether an arrangement which is acceptable to both
jurisdictions can be achieved, which will allow Hong Kong-based jockeys
to fulfil race riding engagements in Hong Kong at the racemeeting(s)
subsequent to any penalty being issued in the overseas jurisdiction.

These changes take effect from 1 January 2018.
